Capsule Geology

The Dane occurrence is located approximately 0.5 kilometres west of the tow of Mitchell Glacier.

The area is underlain primarily by intermediate to mafic pyroclastics and flows of the Lower Jurassic Unuk River Formation, Hazelton Group. A stock of Jurassic monzonite to quartz monzonite has intruded the strata to the immediate north (Open File 1988-4).

Locally, at the Dane zone, massive chalcopyrite veinlets are reported have been identified.

At the Alder zone, located approximately 350 metres to the south- south west, schistose, phyllic alteration and deformed veinlets, similar to the Mitchell occurrence, with abundant pyrite veins and disseminated chalcopyrite and malachite are reported in a potassic altered syenite.

A drill hole is reported to have intercepted an altered and brecciated porphyritic intrusion yielding 0.05 per cent copper and 0.46 gram per tonne gold over 147 metres (Lechner, M.J. (2007-04-06): Mitchell Creek Technical Report).

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Mitchell (MINFILE 104B 103) occurrence and a completed regional exploration history can be found there.
