The Loon occurrence is located on a low west-northwest trending ridge, located to the northeast of Owl Lake.

The area occurs in a region underlain by Upper Jurassic plutons of the Francois Lake Intrusive Suite. These are overlain by Upper Cretaceous to Neogene Ootsa Lake Group volcanic rocks.

Anomalous radioactivity is associated with shears cutting the Ootsa Lake Group volcanics. Mineralization intersected in drillhole 78-2 assayed 1.1 metres of 0.0025 per cent uranium in a silicified and brecciated rhyolite (Assessment Report 7289). A 1.3-metre drillcore sample of highly silicified andesite from hole 78-1 assayed 1.98 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 7289).

Work History

In 1978, Placer Development Ltd. completed a 567.2 line-kilometre ground scintillometer survey and five diamond drill holes, totalling 567.2 metres, on the area as the Loon claims of the Owl Lake property.

In 2002, Minestar Resources Corp. completed a program of geological mapping and rock sampling on the area as the Owl 1-4 claims.

In 2008, Optima Minerals Inc. completed a soil sampling program on the area as the Owl Lake property.
