Capsule Geology

The Blue Peter (L.4059) occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1750 metres on a southeast-facing slope, west of Alki Creek and approximately 1.5 kilometres east-southeast of Mount Murphy.

Regionally, the area is underlain by rock of the Mesoproterozoic Aldridge Formation (Purcell Supergroup). These are fine-grained clastics that include impure quartzites, siltstones and argillites. The sedimentary rocks have been metamorphosed to lower green schist facies and have been intruded by a series of mafic sills and dikes.

Locally, historical adits expose oxidized sedimentary rocks and gabbroic intrusive rocks hosting a 1.0- to 1.5-metre wide shear breccia zone with quartz veins and chalcopyrite, galena, sphalerite and arsenopyrite mineralization. The quartz vein or shear zone is reported to strike north 40 degrees west and dips steeply south.

In 1920, a grab sample from a small dump pile at an adit yielded 2 per cent copper (Annual Report 1920-118).

In 2011, four rock samples (0179769 to 0179771a and b) yielded values from 0.47 to 1.42 grams per tonne gold, trace to 10.5 grams per tonne silver and 0.90 to 2.48 per cent copper (Assessment Report 32814).

In 2023, float samples (AWAKR002 to AWAKR004) from an adit and a nearby trench yielded values of up to 0.13 per cent lead, 0.16 per cent zinc, 1.63 per cent copper and 14.2 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 41956).

Another area of mineralization is reported to be exposed by a series of historical adits and pits near the northern border of the Blue Peter (L.4059) claim at an elevation of approximately 1915 metres and approximately 500 metres north-northeast of the previous described workings and zone. Mineralization comprises of quartz veins hosting variable amounts of galena, chalcopyrite, sphalerite and arsenopyrite at the contact between a gabbro sill and intensely quartz-altered metasediments (wacke and quartzite). The veins trend 318 degrees with a dip of 35 degrees and tend to pinch and swell over short distances.

In 2023, a grab sample (KBAKR001) of metasediments and quartz vein exposed at an adit assayed 0.46 per cent copper, 20.1 grams per tonne silver and 1.24 grams per tonne gold, and a float sample (AWAKR001), taken from the waste dump of the adit, yielded 0.34 per cent copper, 0.27 per cent lead, 51.5 grams per tonne silver and 4.79 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 41956).

Work History

Historical adits and pits dating to the late 1890s and early 1900s are reported in the occurrence area. By 1920, a 30.5-metre tunnel is reported to have been driven a short distance above Alki Creek. In 1924, development work is reported to have included two tunnels, one approximately 44 metres long and the other caved.

In 1971, Kerr Addison Mines Ltd. conducted a regional program of geological mapping and geochemical (soil and silt) sampling on the area as part of the Dewar Creek project. In 1979, Cominco Ltd. conducted a geological mapping program on the area as the Clair 6-10 claims. In 1983, Noranda Mining and Exploration Inc. conducted an airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey on the area as a part of the Mount Evans property.

In 1992, Cominco completed a 14.0 line-kilometre ground electromagnetic survey on the area. During 1996 through 1999, Abitibi Mining completed exploration programs of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical (rock, soil and silt) sampling and a gravity survey on the area as the Clair, Cleo and PMR claims.

In 1999 and 2000, Rio Algom Exploration completed exploration programs consisting of geological mapping, rock sampling and three diamond drill holes, totalling 2555.2 metres, on the area as the Pyramid Peak property. During 2011 through 2013, Electra Gold completed programs of rock sampling, geological mapping and prospecting and a photogeological interpretation program on the area as the Gold Ledge property.

In 2023, Eagle Plains Resources Ltd. conducted a minor program of prospecting and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the area as the Alki Creek property.
