The Mildred showing is located approximately 3 kilometres southeast of Three Guardsmen Lake, approximately 143.5 kilometres south-southeast of Haines Junction, Yukon.
An inlier of Silurian to Permian sediments is intruded and contact metamorphosed by gneissic quartz diorite of Late Cretaceous (Tkope River Intrusions) age. The metasediments comprise marble, quartzite, argillite, and schist which strike north and dip west at 60 to 70 degrees. Foliation in the intrusives parallels the intrusive-metasediment contacts which generally follow bedding. Marble occurs as lenses and irregular masses from a metre to a hundred metres wide. This silver and copper occurrence is skarn hosted. An irregular west dipping skarn zone about 30 metres wide and 150 metres long west of Clayton Creek is overlain by quartz diorite and underlain by grey marble. The skarn contains lenses of near-massive magnetite with chalcopyrite from 3 to 4.5 metres wide. Magnetite also occurs as streaks up to 15 centimetres wide in actinolite-diopside-garnet-epidote skarn. A chip sample across 3 metres of magnetite skarn assayed 0.3 per cent copper and 6.86 grams per tonne silver (Bulletin 25).
The mineralization appears to be continuous on a north-south trend through the Canadian Verdee (114P 014).
Work History
The Mildred claim (Lot 213) is located at an elevation of about 1615 metres on Three Guardsmen Mountain. Adjoining respectively to the south are the Canadian Verdee (Lot 215), Sunshine (Lot 379), and Lookout (Lot 380) claims.
The showings were discovered and staked in 1909. The claims were optioned in 1910 to interests promoting a railway through the area; the option was given up the following year. Assessment work on the property included trenching and an 11-metre adit on the Mildred claim. The four claims were Crown-granted in 1915 as follows: the Mildred to Charles Murphy, the Canadian Verdee to Frank Saucier, the Sunshine to Hugh McDonald, and the Lookout to A.C. Smith.
The Mildred, Ice 1-22, Ace 1-20, June 1-4, and Bug 1-6 claims were acquired by Premier Mining Corporation Ltd in 1968. Taneloy Mines Ltd optioned the property in 1969 and carried out geological mapping and magnetometer survey, and located a diamond drill hole; a three-metre section (92 to 95 metres) averaged 1.80 per cent copper and 39.1 grams per tonne silver. The company name, Premier Mining, was changed in 1971 to Premier Resources Ltd.
In 1971, Eagle River Mines Ltd optioned the Mildred claim (Mineral Lease N-34), and the June 1-8, George 1-4, Ice 1-22, and Ace 1-20 claims, forming one contiguous block; the 1-16 claims were acquired by staking. Work during 1971 included geological mapping, a magnetometer survey, and diamond drilling totalling 8 holes and 1067 metres. Eagle River acquired a 90 per cent interest in the property as a result of the work done.
In 1989, Mountainside Management conducted a prospecting and sampling program in the Simcoe, Mildred and Canadian Verdee areas (Assessment Report 18874).
In 2006, Gerry Diakow owned the Coldstream claim that covered ground containing seven old Crown Granted Claims. Six of these old granted claims have been reverted, surrendered or deactivated, with the only remaining Crown Granted claim still in good standing being the Canadian-Verdi claim (Lot 215). Mineralization is reported present over a wide area. However, past work by previous operators was reported to have made mapping of bedrock near the Mildred showing (114P 013) difficult because the ground appeared as if it had been reclaimed. Samples with a high-grade of copper and magnetite were collected although the gold showings at the northern part of the claim area were reportedly not located, presumably the Simcoe (114P 012) (Assessment Report 29366). One sample was taken on the Canadian Verdi crown grant and several more samples were indicated on a map to the immediate north and south of the Canadian Verdi claim area, on the Coldstream claims.
In 2010, Gerry Diakow held the area as the Cold claim (Tenure 744162). Nine rock samples were collected (Assessment Report 32431). Much of the sampling appears to have been conducted on the Canadian Verdi area (Lot 215) (MINFILE 114P 014) and some on the lapsed Mildred crown grant (MINFILE 114P 213). The area of the Simcoe showings was contained within the Cold claim as well but no mention is made of work there.
In 2019, the Three Guardian Claims covering the Mildred showing were prospected by S.G. Diakow, resulting in a new showing discovered in a cirque area (CIRQUE VERDEE) approximately 500 metres to the south-southwest of the Canadian Verdee workings. No samples were obtained from the Mildred workings in 2019 (Assessment Report 38684).
