Capsule Geology

The Coot 4 occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1220 metres on the north side of a small hill or knoll west of Quartzrock Creek and north of Troutline Creek.

Regionally, the area is underlain by basaltic volcanic rocks of the Mississippian to Permian Slide Mountain Complex.

Locally, andesite hosts a ‘major’ east-west (088 degree) –trending quartz veined structure with tetrahedrite and pyrite mineralization and associated gold and silver values. At surface the veined structure is divided into two sections by a diabase dike. Individual veins vary from 0.3 to 2.5 metres in width. The zone has been traced for approximately 300 metres along strike.

In 1983, a grab sample from of pyritic wallrock from trench 2 assayed 3.3 grams per tonne gold, whereas a chip sample from trench 5 yielded 0.8 gram per tonne gold and 25 grams per tonne silver over 1.4 metres. Diamond drilling on the trenched zone yielded intercepts of up to 1.8 grams per tonne gold over 0.8 metre in hole 83E-20 (Assessment Report 11305). Two other drillholes (83E-18 and 83E-19), located approximately 250 metres east of the trenches and previous drillholes and on strike of the veined structure, yielded 1.2 and 1.5 grams per tonne gold over 4.05 and 7.80 metres, respectively (Assessment Report 11305).

Work History

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Taurus (MINFILE 104P 012) and Elan (MINFILE 104P 075) occurrences and a complete regional exploration history can be found there.

In 1983, Erickson Gold Mining completed four diamond drill holes, totalling 214.5 metres, on the area as the Coot 1-4 claims. The area had been trenched sometime prior to the drilling program.

In 1995, Cartaway Resources Corp. completed a 3678.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic survey on the area as the Hot Tip property. The following year, a 6.2-line-kilometre ground magnetic and induced polarization survey on the area as the Hot 1 claim.
