The Aurex occurrence is located near the south bank of Snowy Creek, approximately 1.8 kilometres northwest of its junction with McDame Creek.
Regionally, the area is underlain by basaltic volcanic rocks of the Pennsylvanian to Permian Slide Mountain Complex.
Locally, chert-volcanic-quartz breccias are associated with 1- to 2-metre-wide and 085-degree–trending fault zones.
In 1989, two samples (32024 and 32021) from these zones yielded 1.03 and 2.23 grams per tonne gold, respectively (Assessment Report 19279).
In 1995, a rock sample is reported to have assayed 2.55 grams per tonne gold; the following year a drillhole (T96-79) yielded 0.27 gram per tonne gold over 2.0 metres (Assessment Report 24504).
Work History
The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Snowy Creek – Rich Vein (MINFILE 104P 014) occurrence and a complete exploration history can be found there.
