Capsule Geology

The Magno North occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1520 metres on a north-trending ridge separating Marble and Granite creeks and approximately 3 kilometres south-southeast of the historical community of Cassiar.

Regionally, the area is underlain by quartz arenite sedimentary rocks of the Lower Cambrian Boya Formation (Atan Group), limestone, marble and calcareous sedimentary rocks of the Lower Cambrian Rosella Formation (Atan Group), limestone, slate, siltstone and argillite of the Ordovician to Silurian Road River Group and calcareous sedimentary rocks of the McDame Group. Granitic intrusive rocks of the Lower Cretaceous Cassiar Batholith are exposed to the west.

Locally, an approximately 2-metre-wide, northeast-trending and steeply dipping mineralized zone has been traced for approximately 100 metres along strike in limestone and dolomitic limestone of the Lower Cambrian Rosella Formation (Atan Group). Mineralization is comprised of magnetite, galena, sphalerite and siderite.

In 2002, sampling of the Magno North zone yielded 7.9 per cent lead, 3.3 per cent zinc and 37 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 27203).

In 2003, trenches TR-03-3 and TR-03-2 on the southern extension Magno North zone identified two mineralized zones separated by 100 metres. The southern trench, located 75 metres of the original Magno North discovery area, exposed a 035-degree trending and 80 degrees east-dipping, 8 by 1.5 metre mineralized zone which yielded 1460 and 820 grams per tonne silver, 38 and 28 per cent lead, 3.7 and 6.2 per cent zinc with 0.5 and trace gram per tonne gold over 0.5 and 1.2 metres, respectively (Assessment Report 27337). The northern trench identified a 060-degree trending and steeply dipping, 25 by 4.5 metre mineralized zone which yielded 1.3 per cent lead, 16 per cent zinc, 19.3 grams per tonne silver and 0.9 gram per tonne gold over 4.3 metres (Assessment Report 27337). The zone is open to the northeast and at depth.

In 2005, drilling on the occurrence failed to intercept the mineralized zone.

In 2014, a sample (620480) from a zone of magnetite-rich skarn exposed at a switchback in the road between the two Magno (MINFILE 104P 006) adits, near the Magno North zone, assayed 0.15 per cent zinc, greater than 1.00 per cent lead and 1921 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 34723).

Work History

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Magno (MINFILE 104P 006) occurrence and a complete exploration history can be found there.
