The Dalziel occurrence is plotted as being located on the northern slopes of Blackfox Mountain, approximately 10 kilometres east of the Erickson mine (MINFILE 104P 029) and 95 kilometres north of the community of Dease Lake. The local geological description of the occurrence indicates the occurrence likely lies north of McDame Creek and is currently misplotted. The original location map is not currently accessible.
Regionally, the area of the occurrence is mapped as being underlain by Pennsylvanian to Permian basaltic volcanic rocks and fine, clastic, Mississippian sedimentary rocks, both of the Slide Mountain Complex. To the east serpentinite ultramafic rocks and basaltic intrusive of the Permian Blue Dome fault zone (Slide Mountain Complex) are exposed.
Locally, a massive pyrrhotite-diopside(?)-sphalerite lens occurs in Lower Cambrian Rosella Formation (Atan Group) marble south of the Eocene Mount Haskin stock. The Mount Haskin stock is a composite body dominated by leucogranite. It also contains granodioritic phases, and garnetiferous alaskite near its eastern border. Tourmaline coats fractures in the alaskite.
Work History
In 1981, Kent Energy prospected and sampled the plotted area of the occurrence as the Duff, Otto, Hall, Amy, Kitt, Neil, Kent claims. During 1984 through 1986, Erickson Gold Mining completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and a ground magnetic survey on the Bear, Hale, Kitt and Otto claims.
In 1996, Cartaway Resources Corp. completed a 3678.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic survey on the area as the Hot Tip property.
During 2008 through 2010, Hawthorne Gold Corp., later China Minerals Mining Corp., completed regional programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and 11,657 line-kilometres of airborne magnetic, radiometric and electromagnetic surveys on the area as the Cassiar Gold property.
In 2019, Margaux Resources completed a program of prospecting, geological mapping and rock sampling on the area immediately east as the Cassiar Gold property. In 2020, Cassiar Gold Corp. completed a program of regional photogeological interpretation, prospecting and rock sampling on the Cassiar Gold property.
