The Fox 1 occurrence is located in a steep creek gully on the eastern slopes of Blackfox Mountain, approximately 15 kilometres east of the town site of Cassiar and 95 kilometres north of the community of Dease Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by pyritic shales, siltstones, greywacke, cherty tuff, greenstones and basaltic volcanic rocks of the Upper Paleozoic Slide Mountain Complex. Minor serpentinite and diorite also occur in the area and are associated with the Permian Blue Mountain fault zone (Slide Mountain Complex).

Locally, mineralization consists of an approximately 2-metre wide limonitic quartz vein, striking 045 degrees and dipping 70 degrees northwest, containing up to 10 per cent tetrahedrite but averaging approximately 1 per cent. Malachite is reported to be associated with the tetrahedrite mineralization. The vein is hosted in pyritic shale with nearby lithologies including andesitic flows and volcaniclastics. The vein has been traced for approximately 23 metres horizontally and 10 metres vertically. A trench on the southern strike extension of the vein exposed a 0.4-metre wide un-mineralized vein which was truncated by a steep north-trending fault.

A second minor zone of tetrahedrite is reported on the Fox 2 claim, approximately 650 metres south-southeast of the main vein.

A third zone of minor mineralization, located on the ridge west of the common boundary of FOX 1 and 2 claims and west of the other two zones, is comprised of vuggy manganese-stained quartz in an altered zone.

In 1983, a chip sample across the main vein assayed 11.5 grams per tonne silver and 0.13 per cent copper over 2.6 metres, whereas a select sample yielded 1.86 per cent copper and 228 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 12221).

In 1984, a sample (7602E) of mineralized quartz vein float from the second zone assayed 0.10 gram per tonne gold and 74 grams per tonne silver, whereas a sample (7668E) from the third zone returned 0.73 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 12493).

Work History

In 1983, the Fox claim was staked to cover the showing and limited prospecting and sampling carried out on behalf of Newmont Exploration of Canada Limited. In 1984, work continued with geological mapping, prospecting and rock trenching.

During 2008 through 2010, Hawthorne Gold Corp., later China Minerals Mining Corp., completed regional programs of geological mapping and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling, and 11,657 line-kilometres of airborne magnetic, radiometric and electromagnetic surveys on the area as the Cassiar Gold property.

In 2019, Margaux Resources completed a program of prospecting, geological mapping and rock sampling on the area as the Cassiar Gold property. In 2020, Cassiar Gold Corp. completed a program of regional photogeological interpretation, prospecting and rock sampling on the Cassiar Gold property.
