The Sunbeam occurrence is reported to be located opposite "26 above Discovery" 180 metres above Boulder Creek on the west slope, north of the west end of Surprise Lake about 19 kilometres northeast of the community of Atlin (Minister of Mines Annual Report 1904).

The lower west side of the Boulder Creek valley is underlain by Upper Mississippian to Permian mafic volcanics of the Nakina Formation (Cache Creek Complex). The lower east side of the valley is underlain by Upper Mississippian to Permian ultramafic rocks (Cache Creek Complex), and cherts and pelites of the Mississippian to Triassic Kedahda Formation (Cache Creek Complex). The upper portion of the creek is underlain by alaskite of the Mount Leonard Boss, a small stock separated from the main body of the Late Cretaceous Surprise Lake batholith (Surprise Lake Plutonic Suite).

A large quartz vein occurs adjacent to a light-coloured felsic dike. Several high gold assays were obtained from trench samples taken from or near the contact of the dike and vein.

The author of the 1904 Minister of Mines Annual Report article on the Sunbeam occurrence does not describe the underlying hostrock. However, he does state that the quartz vein occurrences between Birch and Boulder creeks are part of the same series as they share similar strikes and general characteristics. These occurrences consist of the Cache Creek Complex hosted Lakeview (104N 009) and Whitestar (104N 010) showings, located 3 and 2.2 kilometres south, respectively, and where pyrite appears to be the dominant sulphide.

In 2002, Stirrup Creek Gold Ltd. conducted exploration on the Black Diamond (104N 053) and Silver Diamond areas. A total of 28 rock chip, 142 soil and 7 silt samples were taken in addition to geological mapping and 4.1 kilometres of ground magnetometer surveying.

Between July 2007 and March 2008, Adanac Molybdenum Corporation conducted a major diamond drill-program on the Adanac/Ruby Creek "porphyry molybdenum" property, near Atlin (Assessment Report 30306).

In 2016, two holes were drilled by Global Drilling Solutions on behalf of Zinex Mining Corporation on the Ruby Creek Property, targeting native gold (Assessment Report 36658). In 2017, Global conducted geochemical sampling, drilling and ground geophysics on this property (Assessment Report 37171). In 2018 Global carried out further drilling, prospection, augering and geochemical sampling on this property. It’s mentioned that the Ruby Creek property remains of high interest for not only gold/molybdenum but also for silver and copper based on the exploration work during 2017/2018 (Assessment Report 38256).

In 2020, Stuhini Exploration Ltd. released results of its 2020 field program on its Ruby Creek property which includes the Birch Creek target at the Little Edna showing (104N 125), the Boulder Creek target at the Sunbeam showing (104N 073), and the Lakeview showing (104N 009). The Boulder Creek target is focussed on gold mineralization in the vicinity of the historic Sunbeam showing on the west side of Boulder Creek. Mineralization is found within quartz vein material that is most likely hosted within the Cache Creek Complex. The Sunbeam showing is described in a Minister of Mines Annual Report in 1904, and the exact location is uncertain. To date, several angular proximal float boulders of gold-bearing quartz have been found in the area with grades as high as 121.34 grams per tonne gold and 2093 grams per tonne silver (Press Release - Stuhini Exploration Ltd., May 4, 2021).

In 2021, an airborne SkyTEM survey was conducted by Stuhini on this property, which revealed a number of regional trends across the property (Assessment Report 39553).
