The K zone occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1200 metres on a south flowing tributary of Camp Creek and approximately 7.5 kilometres southeast of the junction of La Jaune Creek and the Sutlahine River.
The area is area is underlain by Eocene volcaniclastics of the Sloko Group and Carboniferous volcaniclastics of the Stikine Assemblage. In the region, Sloko Group volcanics, felsite and rhyolite, overlie mixed Lower Jurassic Laberge Group sediments. Several stocks of granitic to dioritic composition intrude the volcanics and sediments in a belt subparallel to the eastern margin of the Coast Plutonic Complex.
Locally, a 1.8-metre-wide quartz-stibnite vein is reported be hosted by rhyolitic flows and pyroclastic rocks. The vein trends 150 degrees with a dip of 55 degrees west and has been traced for approximately 40 metres.
In 2003, float samples from the area yielded up to 1.51 grams per tonne gold, 8.59 grams per tonne silver and 0.732 per cent copper (Baker, D. (2010-10-28): 2010 Technical Report on the Thorn Property).
Another zone of mineralization, reported to be located east of Mt. Gumm-Powell, comprises a small outcrop comprised of illite-altered lapilli tuff is cut by a silica-carbonate altered stringer zone which strikes at 150 degrees and dips 88 degrees west. The altered zone contains 1 per cent disseminated pyrite and minor arsenopyrite. Several other vein stockwork zones occur in the area and generally contain barite with quartz. To the west float samples hosting quartz-sphalerite-galena stockworks with veins up to 8 millimetres wide have been identified.
In 2005, a grab sample (379251) assayed 1.72 grams per tonne gold and 15.5 grams per tonne silver, while a float sample (378855) taken to the west yielded 85.7 grams per tonne silver, 2.66 per cent lead and 4.06 per cent zinc (Baker, D. (2010-10-28): 2010 Technical Report on the Thorn Property).
The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Cirque (MINFILE 104K 030) occurrence and a completed exploration history can be found there.
