The Anuk RB 18 prospect is located about 92 kilometres south-southwest of the town of Telegraph Creek.
The Anuk property is dominantly underlain by Upper Triassic Stuhini andesite, basalt and undersaturated trachytic basalt and leucite phonolite volcanic rocks that have been intruded by monzonite and syenite, probably related to the Early Jurassic Texas Creek Plutonic Suite.
Unnamed Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic alkaline volcanic rocks are mapped in the area to the immediate north of Anuk RB 18 (Zone 2) area. These may consist of coarse pseudoleucite and pyroxene, feldspar flows and breccias interlayered with orthoclase feldspar, biotite crystal tuffs and epiclastic units, including thick polymictic volcanic conglomerate horizons. To the south of the mineralized area of Zone 2 is an Early Jurassic monzodioritic to gabbroic pluton of the Texas Creek Plutonic Suite.
A magnetic high located on the southern edge of the Anuk property coincides with a syenite to monzonite intrusion. The volcanic and intrusive rocks cover much of the southern half of the property (Anuk RB 18 claim) and have been subjected to alteration and mineralization consistent with an alkalic porphyry copper-gold system. Copper and gold mineralization is related to chlorite-epidote-potassium-feldspar filled fractures and shear zones that contain chalcopyrite, pyrite, and magnetite.
In 1990 and 1991, Zone 2, on the RB 18 claim of the Anuk property, was sampled over a 2 kilometre (east-west) by 1.75 kilometre (north-south) area by Schellex Gold and Wirlwind Resources. They collected about 191 rock samples, mostly chip samples; some grab and even less float samples were part of the 191 samples.
Chip sampling from Zone 2 yielded numerous significant assays including 23 metres of 0.59 per cent copper and 0.24 gram per tonne (0.007 ounce per ton) gold, and 11.5 metres of 0.65 per cent copper with 1.06 grams per tonne (0.031 ounce per ton) gold (Assessment Report 22035). A one metre chip sample of a hematitic, potassium-feldspar altered shear from the gully of Zone 2 returned 1.18 per cent copper, 38.30 grams per tonne (1.117 ounce per ton) gold and 57.2 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 22035). Peripheral to “the Knob” on Zone 2, numerous pyrite, chalcopyrite and minor bornite bearing quartz veins have returned gold values over one ounce per ton (34 grams per tonne), including 127.54 grams per tonne (3.720 ounce per ton) gold over 0.5 metres (Assessment Report 22035).
WORK HISTORY.
During 1966 and 1967, Anuk River Mines Ltd. mapped, trenched and backpack drilled 695 feet on the Devils Club showing on Saddle Mountain 3 kilometres northwest of the Anuk property.
In January of 1989, the RB 12, RB 14, RB 16 and RB18 claims were staked and later grouped under the name Anuk. In the fall of 1989, Coast Mountain Geological Ltd. prospected and surface sampled portions of the Anuk property on behalf of Schellex Gold Corp. which resulted in several mineralized quartz veins being discovered. A total of 37 rock samples and 3 stream sediment samples were collected for analysis. A number of samples were taken in the area of the Joan and MB (104G 047) occurrence plot.
In 1990, Schellex held the Anuk property consisting of the RB 12, 14, 16 and 18 claims. Work consisted of prospecting, surface sampling and geological mapping. A total of 19 rock, 8 soil and 7 silt samples were collected. Three MINFILE showings, including the Anuk RB 12 were defined as a result of the work.
In 1991, over 350 chip, chip-panel, grab and float samples were taken during the program by operator Wirlwind Resources Assessment Report 22035). Schellex Gold was the owner. During this time a program of mapping and sampling on a scale of 1:10,000 was performed.
