Capsule Geology

In the Arctic West area, significant sulphide mineralization occurs primarily in the felsic volcanic rocks on the west side of More Creek, probably of the related to Middle Jurassic Hazelton Group. Up to 10 per cent pyrite occurs as small masses, disseminations and fracture fillings. None of this mineralization has any significant metal content other than iron. Disseminated pyrite also occurs in the sedimentary rocks west of More Creek. Weak precious metal (up to 41 parts per billion Au) and zinc values (up to 180 parts per million) are associated with the sedimentary rocks in this area.

A 2006 drillhole intersected a dominantly sedimentary section of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group with abundant coarse clastic beds. Siltstone, minor pebble conglomerate dominate to a depth of 52 metres.

Sulphide mineralization is restricted to minor pyrite disseminations and replacement along laminae and within clasts. Long sections of core have less than 0.5 per cent pyrite mineralization with minor intervals of 2-3 per cent.

One 2.10 metre wide sample (from 44.1-46.2) from a fault zone yielded 361 grams per tonne silver within a 12.20 metre section that averaged 0.04 per cent zinc. Another section of 8.52 metres averaging 0.04 per cent zinc occurs in fine grained sediment near the bottom of the hole (Assessment Report 28789). Elevated copper values tend to be associated with the mafic intrusions.

See RDN (104G 144) for details of related work history.
