The BB 38 region is underlain by mafic to intermediate lapilli tuff, lesser ash, breccia, tuffite, aphyric or plagioclase and augite-phyric and coarse-bladed plagioclase porphyry flows and sills of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group. Middle to Late Triassic medium-grained equigranular augite diorite and gabbro of the Stikine Plutonic Suite are in contact with the Stuhini rocks north of Skeeter Lake. Biotite granite to tonalite of the Late Devonian Forrest Kerr Plutonic Suite and Pennsylvanian carbonate rock of the Stikine Assemblage are fault contact with the Stuhini rock to the immediate east.
The BB 38 showing consists of altered felsic/granitic dike intruded into a sheared andesite. Minor magnetite and minor chalcopyrite mineralization are associated with this dike. Several copper mineralized outcrops occur. The MINFILE location plot is is that of the intruded dike outcrop with copper mineralization. Other copper mineralized locations occur about 150 metres east and 225 metres east of the dike.
The location of Tecks 1981 drill hole is located on the road about 330 metres to the northwest of the BB 38 MINFILE location. The hole was drilled on a high metal factor IP anomaly. Monolithic augite porphyry fragmental volcanic rock with up to 10 per cent magnetite was encountered. The I.P. anomaly is explained by the magnetite. A trace amounts of pyrite and chalcopyrite were also found. Teck drilled 7 holes (SK-1 to SK-7) along a north-south access road over 5 kilometres. All drill holes were reported to have cored andesitic fragmental rocks, pyroclastics, tuffs and flows.
Work History
During 1971 Hecla Operating Company performed a soil geochemical survey for copper, a ground magnetometer survey, and geological mapping of the Skeeter Lake valley. A few minor chalcopyrite showings were located, and several small weakly anomalous soil areas outlined. The magnetometer survey helped correlation of geology.
In 1973 Hecla surveyed four reconnaissance induced polarization lines on the claim group. Possible anomalous results were obtained on all four lines, but the lines were too widely spaced for correlation.
In 1981 Teck Explorations Limited contracted Phoenix Geophysics Ltd. to survey 15.6-line kilometres of induced polarization on lines spaced 300 metres apart. Several anomalous zones were identified and tested by drilling of seven 122-metre-deep diamond-drill holes. Teck's hole SK-2 was drilled on the road a few hundred metres to the northwest of the BB 38 showing.
In 2015, Teck Resources reported new mineralization north of Skeeter Lake (Skeeter showing). See Schaft Creek (104G 015) for further details of work done by Teck Resource in the area of the Schaft Creek claims.
