Capsule Geology

The AC showing area is underlain by sedimentary and volcanic rock of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group. The stratigraphy is intruded by Early Jurassic monzodiorite to gabbro of the Texas Creek Plutonic Suite.

The Stuhini volcanics consist of altered andesites, tuffs and porphyrytic andesite containing amphibole and plagioclase. Explosion breccia has been noted in one locality. A body of feldspar porphyry, reported to consist of syenitic to porphyritic granite, is intruded into the volcanics. The potash feldspar appeared to be a result of secondary hydrothermal alteration as are muscovite, biotite and epidote.

Two types of mineralization occur in this area: 1) Chalcopyrite and malachite are found along joints and disseminated in the volcanics near the intrusive contact. Pyrite is abundant. 2) Chalcopyrite with traces of bornite and malachite are disseminated throughout the feldspar porphyry. Pyrite is common in mineralized areas and traces of magnetite veinlets were also observed. Figure 1 (Assessment Report 846) shows scattered copper mineralization along South Creek, a main tributary to Split Creek, that flows easterly. This scattered copper mineralization occurs from South Creek and in the area to the northeast and north, over a 4.5 kilometre distance.

In 1966, Stikine River Mines Ltd. held the AC 1 to 21 and the Alpha 24 mineral claims. A total of 37 stream sediment samples were collected and rocks samples were collected for thin sections. The Paydirt prospect occurs to the west of the scattered AC mineralization and west of the main south to southwest flowing tributary that joins with Split Creek and "South Creek" further to the southeast.

Sometime after the initial work on the AC in the 1960s, the Paydirt property expanded to cover the original AC and Alpha claims and the AC mineral occurrence. See Paydirt (104G 108) for related details.
