The area of the Frances showing is underlain by Jurassic rock of the Salmon River, Betty Creek and Mount Dilworth formations, Hazelton Group.
In 1990, Teuton Resources collected 30 rock samples and 12 silt samples on their Frances claims.
A major gossanous zone comprising red, orange, maroon and yellow weathering volcanic rocks, occurs below an icefield on the southwest slope above the Knipple Glacier. This zone is approximately 300 by 200 metres, adjacent to a sedimentary contact. It is characterized by abundant stringers and fracture fillings of pyrite and quartz, with accessory pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite. These fractures and veinlets are generally less than one centimetre wide.
A suite of rock geochemical samples taken from the Frances 1 claim in 1990, in volcanic rocks on the ridge overlooking the south side of the Knipple Glacier, shows consistently anomalous values in arsenic and antimony, accompanied occasionally by elevated to anomalous values in silver. A sample (CD-R-49) from massive pyrite mineralization assayed 33.8 grams per tonne silver 0.063 per cent arsenic (Assessment Report 21029). The style of mineralization in this area and the geochemical results indicated that the zone may represent an epithermal system.
