Capsule Geology

The Iceberg showing (located south of Iceberg Lake) is underlain by Lower Jurassic Unuk River Formation rock in an area of iron oxide-staining and sericite alteration.

The zone occurs adjacent to the northerly striking Brucejack Fault where channel-rock sampling by Silver Standard and previous workers tested a zone of quartz stockwork veining close to a fault as well as an east-striking, 150 metre long and 20 to 80 centimetre wide quartz vein that extends westwards from the quartz stockwork. In addition, seven historic and five newer Silver Standard diamond drill-holes tested for gold mineralization in this area. The boreholes passed through a sequence of mainly clastic andesitic rocks, tuffs and lapilli tuffs that are intercalated with quartzo-feldspathic sandstones and minor siltstone units. These drill holes contained very little quartz veining; instead, the lapilli tuff hosts minor quartz-carbonate stockwork veinlets and trace amounts of fine, acicular arsenopyrite in addition to 1-3 per cent disseminated pyrite. Geochemical data reveal that there is a close relationship between gold and arsenic in this zone.

This showing is defined by 2010 drillhole SU-051 and is described in Assessment Report 32074 as being part of the SG zone. Historically, the SG zone is farther west and is given a MINFILE occurrence location based on 1993 work (Assessment Report 23169) and 1992 work (Assessment Report 22697). The Maddux and Eastside zones occur in the vicinity of drillhole SU-051 but are not described in historical reports, though the Maddux zone is defined by mapping in Assessment Report 24610. Drillhole SU-051 assayed 0.67 gram per tonne gold and 3.03 grams per tonne silver over a 69.48 metre drill interval (Assessment Report 32074).

Refer to West (MINFILE 104B 193) for details of related mineralization and work history.
