The area of the Mikhail 4 showing is underlain by sedimentary and volcanic rock of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group. The area is bisected by a north-south trending cataclastic zone known as the Harrymel-South Unuk Shear Zone. East of Harrymel Creek, the area is underlain by Lower Jurassic Hazelton Group andesitic rock.
A number of old trenches were found in the southeast corner of the Mikhail 4 claim in 1989. These explored a well mineralized zone within dark green andesite which hosts 10 to 15 per cent pyrrhotite, pyrite, and chalcopyrite. Lithogeochemical sampling yielded 0.14 to 0.20 per cent copper (Assessment Report 19678). In the northeast corner of the Mikhail 4 claim, a dark green andesite was located, hosting 10 per cent pyrrhotite. These two showings occur along strike of each other and were probably from the same sulphide-enriched stratigraphic unit which cuts across the entire property.
Work History
The 1989 property exploration by Solomon Resources Ltd, who held the Mikhail 1 and 4 claims, consisted of helicopter-supported reconnaissance prospecting and geological mapping. A total of 80 rock, 19 stream silt and 14 heavy mineral samples were collected. The 1989 field exploration program concentrated on the Triassic stratigraphy to the west of the Unuk-Harrymel shear zone.
The 1990 exploration program of Solomon Resources Ltd consisted of geological mapping and sampling that was concentrated on the eastern half of the Mikhail property. A total of 65 soil samples, 46 stream silt samples and 19 rock samples were taken as part of the geochemical survey on the Mikhail property.
In 2020, Eskay Mining Corp. completed a program of prospecting, rock sampling, ground and airborne geophysical surveys and 4335 metres of diamond drilling in 20 holes on the area as part of the Sib-Corey-North Mitchell property. The geophysical surveys consisted of a 911.7 line-kilometre airborne electromagnetic survey, a 55.85 line-kilometre induced polarization survey and a 43.19 line-kilometre magnetotelluric survey. Drilling was performed on the TV (MINFILE 104B 385) and Jeff (MINFILE 104B 525) occurrences.
