The Cave area is underlain by a massive sequence of pillowed andesite basalt flows along with agglomeratic phases of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group. This volcanic package has been intruded by small rhyolite plugs in the southern half of the property. The only sedimentary rocks noted in the VG area are narrow (50 to 100 metres) beds of coarsely crystalline marble.
Disseminated pyrite with minor chalcopyrite and traces of pyrrhotite is concentrated in a 2 metre thickness of andesitic agglomerate above a moderately dipping carbonate contact at the J37 trench location. Mineralization extends upward for at least 4 metres above the carbonate contact along steeply dipping, northwesterly striking fracture planes. Assays from samples of mineralized andesite at this location contain up to 9.77 grams per tonne gold with minor amounts of silver and base metals (Assessment Report 20459).
Work History
During their 1981 examination of the GIM Property-area, DuPont's crew discovered an area of high concentrations of metals in soils (Assessment Report 10363). Later, that area became known as the Cave zone. A soil survey conducted by Consolidated Kyle Resources on the Gim claim over the Cave grid area in 1988 revealed a north-easterly trending soil-gold anomaly with gold concentrations up to 700 parts per billion gold (Assessment Report 17127). Soil sampling during the 1990 program by Consolidated Kyle confirmed that there was an extensive area of soil-metal enrichment in the Cave zone area (Assessment Report 20459). In 1991, Consolidated Kyle conducted a magnetic survey on the Cave zone area.
