The Azurite area is underlain by Devonian sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Stikine Assemblage. The Devonian Forrest Kerr Pluton is in contact to the immediate west of the Stikine package. Plutonic rocks consist primarily of Late Devonian granite and diorite.
The Azurite showing is located south of the Forrest Zone and consists of widespread sulphide mineralization in veins, associated with shears, and possibly in replacement-style zones. The main part of the showing is a 5 by 10 metre area of 5 to 20 per cent chalcopyrite and minor pyrite in fractures, disseminations, and masses.
Mapping during 1995 indicates the Azurite showing to be hosted by a folded sequence of tufaceous, argillaceous and cherty sediments. The showing appears to comprise semi-massive chalcopyrite with pyrite and azurite in a chloritic lens exposed in a minor synclinal trough. The lens is faulted off to the southwest and truncated by erosion to the NE. Drill Hole F95-3 tested the occurrence to depth. A well fractured andesite containing numerous quartz and quartz-carbonate veinlets was encountered below the showing. Although traces of chalcopyrite were observed, the chalcopyrite-rich chlorite lens was not. Most assay values were less than 5 parts per billion gold and less than 0.09 per cent copper (Assessment Report 24156).
A 9 metre trench sample from 1990 assayed ran 0.35 per cent copper (Assessment Report 20562). Though previous results from earlier trench channel sampling yielded up to 20.9 grams per tonne gold across 3 metres, gold values are generally reported to be low (Assessment Report 20562).
The nearby Knob copper-gold showing is a related mineral occurrence located less than 100 metres to the northeast. Veining and mineralization continue, albeit waning, to the Knob area of the Knob Showing.
Work during the 1990 season by Avondale Resource included geophysical surveys and mechanized trenching. Both UTEM and VLF-EM/magnetometer surveys failed to chart any strong anomalies while backhoe trenching aided in the evaluation and expansion of the showing area. Trenches 90-A-13, 90-A-14 and 90-A-15 totalling 90 linear metres extended north and south from the earlier hand trench and tested the on strike potential in either direction from the showing. Work in 1995 by Meridian Peak Resources included one hole (Hole F95-3 (118.9 metres) on the Azurite Showing, also on Forrest 3 claim (Assessment Report 24156).
