Capsule Geology

The VG Vein is a very high-grade, gold-bearing vein. The VG area is underlain by a massive sequence of pillowed andesite basalt flows along with agglomeratic phases of the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group. This volcanic package has been intruded by small rhyolite plugs in the southern half of the property. The only sedimentary rocks noted in the VG area are narrow (50m - 100m) beds of coarsely crystalline marble.

This vein was discovered during the 1987 exploration program on the property. At that time, the VG vein was trenched and sampled. Assays ran up to 127.20 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 17127). The VG vein is a northwesterly striking, steeply northeasterly dipping fissure exposed on a cliff of porphyritic andesite. The vein is 1 to 4 centimetres thick and contains pyrite, hematite, goethite and free gold in quartz. At this location, a sample was taken in 1990 that assayed 701.83 grams per tonne gold and 102.17 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 20459). Another sample from the gold-bearing quartz vein assayed 127.09 grams per tonne gold, 24.2 grams per tonne silver, 0.065 per cent bismuth and 0.015 per cent arsenic (Property File: Todoruk, S.L., 1988).

Its location at the northern boundary of the claim and its narrowness preclude it from becoming a high-priority exploration target.

Work History

DuPont of Canada Exploration Limited undertook the earliest recorded exploration in the property-area. During 1980 DuPont conducted a regional silt sampling program in the Snippaker Creek valley. Analysis of a silt sample taken upstream fromt he Canyon Zone on Zappa Creek returned 7000 parts per billion gold. Late in 1980 a short program of silt and rock sampling was conducted over the property-area. The Cave Zone and Mineral Gulch geochemical anomalies were probably located at that time. DuPont conducted a property examination in 1981. During that program, the first grid was sampled over the Cave Zone resulting in the discovery of a linear soil-gold anomaly in that area. The Zappa claim lapsed during the mid 198Os,

In 1986, as a result of a general staking rush in the Iskut area, Ian Hagomoen staked the Gim Property. It was sold to Gulf International Minerals Ltd who optioned it to Consolidated Kyle Resources Inc.

Consolidated Kyle contracted with Pamicon Developments to do reconnaissance mapping and soil sampling on the property from 1987 to 1989. They identified a northeasterly trending gold in soils anomaly. Further contour sampling in various areas defined an area of anomalous gold geochemistry in the area of the Cave zone. During the program, one of the prospectors on the crew found the VG vein (104B 293) near the northwestern corner of the property. During 1987 and 1988, Consolidated Kyle also participated in a regional airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey conducted by Aerodat Limited.

In 1990, Consolidated Kyle contracted consulting geologist John Ostler to detailed trenching (123 metres in 6 trenches), soil geochemistry (549 soil samples), rock sampling (51 samples) and geological mapping over the various anomalous areas on the Gim proeprty located by previous programs. This program located the high grade gold mineralization on the AJ zone (Assessment Report 20459).

In 1991, as part of an extended property examination on the Gim property, Consolidated Kyle resurveyed and cut 4.8 km of line on which they contracted Scott Geophysics to perform ground magnetic and VLF-EM surveys on the property (Assessment Report 22188). Over the three lines that covered the AJ zone Time Domain IP was run.
