The Homer 3 showing area is underlain by Upper Triassic Stuhini Group rocks comprised of volcanic siltstone, sandstone, conglomerate and some breccia. The Flory Creek fault trends northwestwards and cuts altered Stuhini Group rocks. On the west side of the fault the rocks are comprised mainly of biotite-rich schists while on the east side, disseminated magnetite and epidote occur in greenstones and sericitized andesitic porphyry.
The Homer 3 copper showing occurs at the north end of a small lake at the southwestern corner of the Homer 3 mineral claim. A gossanous zone within the Flory Creek Fault zone hosts disseminations and fracture fillings of pyrite and cbalcopyrite. In 1989 prospecting failed to locate any mineralization in the Homer 3 showing area. An examination of the Homer 3 showings in 1990 confirmed the presence of andesitic flows, fragmental andesites (agglomerates) and pyroclastics hosting up to 3 per cent pyrite. The fault gouge is carbonitized and hosts up to 5 per cent pyrite (Newmont Map located in Property File).
Work History
The Unuk River (Nine Mile) copper showing (104B 096) occurs on the Homer 1 claim. In 1929, two claims were staked to cover this showing with its high percentage of copper.
In 1929, two placer claims were located near the mouth of Fewright Creek in the northeast portion of the Homer 4 claim. Gravels were reported to carry free gold on the surface, to an equivalent amount of approximately 14 grams per tonne gold.
From 1959 to 1962 Newmont Mines Ltd. conducted a reconnaissance geological mapping and prospecting program over the entire Unuk River area. This program led to the discovery of a number of showings within or adjacent to the property boundaries.
In 1960, Granduc Mints Ltd conducted magnetometer surveys, soil geochemistry and geological mapping programs on their Max claims (Assessment File 346). A portion of this program covered areas encompassed by the current property boundaries.
An airborne electromagnetic and magnetic survey was flown over the Homer claims in 1988 (Assessment Report 18585). A number of north-northeast trending, weak to moderate strength conductors were delineated on the property. A strong apparent resistivity anomaly was defined, coinciding with the Unuk River, possibly outlining an underlying silicified shear zone. A second apparent resistivity low zone was de6ned in the northeastern comer of the Homer 4 mineral claim on the flank of a broad moderate magnetic anomaly.
In 1989, Keewatin Engineering Inc. on behalf of Ferret Exploration Ltd. and Bodega Ventures Inc., conducted a helicopter-supported prospecting, geological mapping and geochemistry (lithogeochemical, stream silt and heavy mineral sampling) program (Assessment Report 19679). MINFILE locations and other areas of known mineralization and gossans were investigated and sampled. A total of 6 rock, 18 stream silt and 4 heavy mineral samples were taken.
The 1990 exploration program consisted of helicopter-supported geological mapping, contour soil sampling and stream sediment (Assessment Report 20850). A total of 27 rock samples, 347 contour soil samples and 23 stream silt samples were collected from the Homer 1 to 4 claims. Areas characterized by moderate to high gold-in-soil values were targeted near the common claim boundary between the Homer 1 and 2 claims, in proximity to a magnetite-bearing diorite - intermediate volcanic contact. This area was contour soil sampled and yielded gold-in-soil values up to 648 parts per billion gold. The south-eastern corner of the Homer 1 claim yielded a strongly anomalous gold-in-stream silt value of 2.23 grams per tonne gold.
The 1991 field exploration program consisted of limited contour soil sampling, stream silt sampling and geological mapping concentrated mostly on the anomalous gold-in-soil area outlined in 1990 (Assessment Report 21976). The infill contour soil samples collected in 1991 yielded values as high as 990 parts per billion gold and stream silts yielded high values of 416 and 44.6 parts per billion gold, suggesting a mineralized bedrock source. During 1991, 30 rock, 7 silt and 125 soils were collected on behalf of Bodega Ventures and Ferret Exploration Company Ltd.
In 2006 and 2007, Hathor Exploration Ltd. completed a 7228.7 line-kilometre airborne geophysical survey on the area as the Pearly claims of the Iskut project. In 2008, Max Minerals Ltd. examined the property.
In 2015 Metallis Resources Inc evaluated the Homer prospect. A contour soil line was carried out between two soil lines from 1990 and 1991 that yielded anomalous gold values. The 2015 soil geochemistry produced elevated gold values in two neighboring samples, assaying 190 parts per billion and 450 parts per billion gold (Metallis Resources Inc, Press Release, February 1, 2016). Prospecting resulted in the discovery of a small gossanous outcrop of chloritized and pyritic andesite which yielded 1.48 grams per tonne gold and 3.1 grams per tonne silver (Metallis Resources Inc, Press Release February 1, 2016).
