The Briton showing is located about 1.6 kilometres northwest of the confluence of Bitter Creek and the Bear River, 12 kilometres north of Stewart.
The area is underlain by Lower Jurassic Betty Creek Formation (Hazelton Group) rocks comprising hematitic sediments interbedded with andesitic to dacitic tuffs and breccias.
A small, silicified zone in maroon volcaniclastics contains minor pyrite and abundant malachite. The zone is about 1 metre thick and 2 metres long (Assessment Report 9624). It is not known whether this is the same mineralization referred to in the Minister of Mines Annual Report 1922 (page 70).
Work History
The Briton claim (Lot 4414) was staked by Mackenzie in 1920. The M.C. Mining Company Limited was formed in 1922 to acquire the property. At that time an east trending, highly silicified vein "carrying values" was reported. Ownership of the company was acquired by the M.C. Mining Company of British Columbia Limited the following year. The claim was Crown granted to the company in 1924. No further work was reported until 1981 when D. Kretschmar carried out a limited geological examination. In 2017 and 2019, Bonanza Mining Corp. completed programs of prospecting, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and ground geophysical (induced polarization, magnetic and gravity) surveys on the area as the MC property.
