The Banded Mountain showing is located on the Kit 2 claim, northeast of the White River, approximately 35 kilometres east-southeast of Stewart.
The area is underlain by volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Jurassic Hazelton Group Unuk River and Salmon River formations, which have been intruded by Eocene dikes, sills and plugs of granodiorite with quartz-dioritic and aplitic compositions.
Sphalerite, arsenopyrite and galena are found at the sheared contact between the sediments and the granodiorite intrusion on the southern portion of Banded Mountain (Kit 2 claim, Banded Mountain showing). Mineralization is exposed intermittently over a strike length of about 60 metres with widths varying from 15 to 30 centimetres.
In 1990, five samples of the sheared contact between the granodiorite intrusion and sediments returned greater than 1.0 gram per tonne gold and up to 6.40 grams per tonne gold. One sample from within the granodiorite returned 3.52 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 21304).
In 1994, samples from, 0.10 to 0.40 metres, polymetallic quartz veins returned up to 4860 parts per billion gold, 156.2 parts per million silver, 6104 parts per million lead, greater than 10,000 parts per million zinc and 190 parts per million molybdenum (Assessment Report 25406).
In 1996, rock samples returned up to 24,914 parts per billion gold, 1254.0 parts per million silver, 123 parts per million molybdenum, 31,446 parts per million lead and 10,096 parts per million zinc (Assessment Report 25406).
In 1997, samples of two parallel quartz- arsenopyrite veins returned 32,070 parts per billion gold, 85.3 parts per million silver, 6331 parts per million lead, and 1552 parts per million zinc (Assessment Report 25406).
Work History
The Band claims were staked by Kennco Explorations (Western) Ltd. in 1966 following a reconnaissance stream sediment sampling program that yielded anomalous molybdenum values in all streams draining the southern slopes of Banded Mountain. Follow-up work by Kennco included geological mapping and stream sediment, soils and talus fines sampling. Subsequent work, by JMT Services Ltd. was also oriented toward the assessment of molybdenum potential and included prospecting, geological mapping and the collection of soil and rock samples which were analyzed for molybdenum, lead and zinc only. In 1990, Bond Gold Canada Inc. conducted a reconnaissance geological and geophysical program. The current Band mineral claims were located by Richard T. Heard on October 1, 1993. In 1994, the area was explored by Teuton Resources Corp. under the Red Claims. Exploratory programs between 1994 and 1996 have included reconnaissance geology, prospecting, one trial line of magnetometer readings and the collection and analysis of 34 stream sediment and 55 rock samples. During 2017 through 2019, Auryn Resources Inc. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling, airborne and ground geophysical surveys and re-logging of historical drill cores.
