The Royal showing is located 0.5 kilometre west of the Kitsault River, 21.5 kilometres north of Alice Arm. A shear zone on the property was explored for precious metals in 1969 and 1970. In 1980, the property was re-evaluated for deposits similar to the Dolly Varden deposit (103P 188) just to the north.

The region is underlain by an assemblage of volcanics and sediments comprising the Upper Triassic Stuhini Group and the Lower Jurassic Hazelton Group. These are folded into a doubly plunging north-northwest trending syncline and have been regionally metamorphosed to greenschist facies.

The main showings comprise a series of closely spaced, northwest trending, steeply north dipping shears. The shears occur in a 1.5 metre wide zone near the intersection of north-northeast and northwest trending fault zones. The shears are developed in pyritic and schistose andesitic crystal-lithic tuffs of the Hazelton Group. The shears contain some slightly sulphidic quartz stringers. A grab sample assayed 0.3 gram per tonne gold and 70.3 grams per tonne silver (Property File - Silver Butte Mines Annual Report, 1969).

In 1970, trenching and blasting in the vicinity of the original workings was conducted by Silver Butte Mines Ltd. In 1989, prospecting and a soil geochemical grid was established on behalf of owner, Stikine Resources Ltd. A 1.1 kilometre baseline was cut and a total of 159 soil, silt and rock samples were collected in the area. During 2010 through 2019, Dolly Silver Corporation explored the area as apart of the Dolly Varden property. A complete property exploration history can be found at the Dolly Varden (MINFILE 103P 188) occurrence.
