The Aird occurrence is located approximately 600 metres north of the north end of Williams Lake.
The area is underlain by the Upper Triassic Vancouver Group, Karmutsen Formation, which is in fault contact with the Upper Triassic Vancouver Group, Quatsino Formation limestone and Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group volcanics. This northwest striking contact lies about 1.0 kilometre west of the Aird occurrence (Geological Survey of Canada Map 4-1974).
Disseminated pyrite and chalcopyrite occur in a silicified zone within interbedded argillite, amygdaloidal andesite and basalt flows of the Karmutsen Formation. Malachite and bornite is also present in the area. The mineralized zone strikes east-west and is located in the northeast corner of the Aird 1 claim.
Work History
In 1968 and 1969, Utah Construction and Mining completed a program of geological mapping and a soil geochemical survey on the Aird 1-20 claims. Also, during 1968 through 1970, Quintana Minerals Corp. completed a program of geological mapping, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling, trenching and a 31.0 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area surrounding as the Cape Scott (CS) claims.
In 1990 and 1991, Universal Trident Industries staked the Will and Lake claims and completed a program of prospecting and geochemical sampling. In 1990, a float grab sample, taken from the creek, returned values of 0.858 per cent copper and 5.0 grams per tonne silver (Sample 32783; Assessment Report 21371).
In 2018 and 2019, MK2 Ventures Ltd. and District Metals Corp. completed programs of prospecting, geological and structural mapping, geochemical (rock, soil, and stream sediment) sampling and an 804 line-kilometre airborne geophysical (VTEM) survey on the area as the Bakar property.
