The CREEK occurrence is located along a west flowing tributary of Moosehorn Creek, approximately 5 kilometres north-northwest of Kadah Lake, some 280 kilometres north of Smithers. It lies within the Omineca-Cassiar mountains, north of Toodoggone Creek, in the Toodoggone Gold Camp.
The area is underlain by a thick succession of Lower Jurassic andesite flows and volcanic breccias of the Toodoggone Formation (Metsantan Member), Hazelton Group.
The Creek zone occurs in a steeply dipping porphyry system hosted by Lower Jurassic Toodoggone andesitic volcanic rocks. Mineralization comprises semi-massive coarse-grained pyrite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite and galena within a broad zone of quartz-carbonate stockwork, as well as disseminations. Alteration is predominantly propylitic with several stages of moderate intense potassic alteration. Several stages of brecciation have been observed but only late open-spaced fracturing is observed is high-grade mineralization reported.
Another zone of mineralization, referred to as the Orest zone, is located approximately 300 metres south-southeast of and parallel to the Creek zone. Trenching on the zone indicated a minimum true width of 19 metres. Both zones are reported to be open along strike and at depth.
In 1994, a chip sample (145639) of fracture propylitic-altered feldspar porphyry with minor quartz veining and pyrite associated with a fault trending 132 degrees and dipping vertically, taken from the area of Orest zone, yielded 1.31 grams per tonne gold over 1.0 metre (Assessment Report 23663).
In 1997, drillhole CZ-97-08 on the Creek zone yielded 103.3 grams per tonne gold, 92.9 grams per tonne silver, 1.34 per cent copper, 0.46 per cent lead and 11.7 per cent zinc (Assessment Report 25757).
In 1998, trenching on the Orest zone indicated a mineralized interval of 11 metres true-width grading 2.0 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 2575). Diamond drilling, at this time, yielded intercepts of up to 21.65 grams per tonne gold over 5.50 metres (107.5 to 113.0 metres down hole) in hole CZ-98-12 on the Creek zone and 2.40 grams per tonne gold over 5.00 metres (213.0 to 218.0 metres down hole) in hole CZ-98-16 on the Orest zone (Assessment Report 25757).
In 2018, grab samples (100276 and 100278) of rusty orange-grey, weathered, intermediate volcanic with fine-grained pyrite and traces of chalcopyrite (?) from the Orest zone area assayed 0.340 and 0.377 gram per tonne gold, respectively, whereas a grab sample (100424) of tuff/flow with malachite, located approximately 500 metres to the southwest, yielded 0.282 gram per tonne gold, 39.4 grams per tonne silver and 0.175 per cent copper (Assessment Report 38203).
Select 2024 drill highlights from the Creek zone include: Hole CZ-24-001 intercept of 61.52 metres grading 1.07 grams per tonne gold; Hole CZ-24-002 intercept of 29.08 metres grading 1.64 grams per tonne gold; Hole CZ-24-003 intercept of 95.5 metres grading 0.7 gram per tonne gold; and Hole CZ-24-004 intercept of 122.53 metres grading 2.11 grams per tonne gold (www.sunsummitminerals.com). Results from the 400 metre step-out hole JD-24-12 indicate that gold mineralization is open along strike to the southeast. A grab sample collected from the Creek zone in 2024 returned a value of 222 grams per tonne gold (Press Release, Sun Summit Minerals, Nov. 18, 2024).
Work History
Americas Gold Corp. (AGC) and Antares Mining and Exploration Corp. drilled 8 holes in 1997 and 1998 totaling 1038 metres. Drill testing of weak IP and magnetic anomalies proximal to heavy metal stream samples and soils anomalous in gold led to the discovery of significant gold mineralization at the Creek zone.
AGC acquired all the Toodoggone properties in July 1999. AGC is a subsidiary of Timebeat.com Enterprises Inc. Antares became Canesa Capital Corporation in September 1999.
Recent work History in the Creek zone area included soil sampling in 2012 by Tower Resources and aeromagnetic surveying by Duran Ventures in 2008. The 2008 airborne magnetic survey in the area referred to as Grid 1 extends from the area of the Creek zone (and generally associated Schmidt and Woof high-grade vein targets) northward into a cluster of magnetic responses suggesting a high level intrusive system Duran's 2008 program reported gossans of interest in this sector.
From 2015 through 2019, Freeport-McMoran Mineral Properties Canada Inc. completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping, soil and rock sampling induced polarization surveys, an airborne magnetic survey, re-logging of drill hole JD-13-026 and hyperspectral analysis of selected rocks and core on the JD property. Two diamond drill holes, totaling 1294.1 metres were completed in 2018.
In 2020 and 2021, Volatus Capital Corp. optioned the JD property and completed programs of geological mapping, soil and rock sampling, an induced polarization (IP) survey and an airborne Versatile Time Domain Electromagnetic (VTEM) survey (Assessment Reports 39419, 40386).
Sun Summit Minerals optioned the JD property in January 2024 and upon defining target areas across the property, commenced a diamond drill program focused on the Creek zone (094E 236). Also, two holes were drilled in an area a short distance northeast, referred to as the Fericrete zone and four holes were drilled in a new target area, referred to as the Ag-Carb zone, approximately 1.8 kilometres southeast of the Creek zone. All twelve holes intersected zones of encouraging mineralization. Drilling at the Creek Zone intersected multiple zones of high-grade, vein-hosted gold and base metal mineralization within broad zones of bulk-tonnage style gold mineralization. Soil sampling grids established on the Creek zone and Belle zone are locally coincident with geophysical targets (sunsummitminerals.com).
