The Pat occurrence is located 1 kilometre west of Mount Patcha (Property File - Canadian Superior Exploration Limited, Maps from Company Files, c. 1973).
Mineralization is hosted in Lower Jurassic Telkwa Formation (Hazelton Group) green to red tuffs. The mineralized tuff unit is 15.24 metres thick. Mineralization consists of chalcocite and bornite in veinlets and disseminated in the tuffs. Another similar description indicates that chalcopyrite, bornite and chalcocile, occurs as disseminations in rhyolite flows and as veinlets in rocks (Geology, Exploration and MIning in BC, 1973, page 403).
Approximately 3.5 kilometres to the southeast, roughly along strike, copper sulphide mineralization occurs in fractures within Telkwa Formation rocks. Three other copper showings are located 2 kilometres to the west. Two of the showings are hosted in rhyolites and the third is found within a small, northeast trending shear.
In their 2008 report, Electrum Resources stated that the Pat occurrence was difficult to reach. It is a tabular zone with some high copper and silver grades, whose known length is about 90 meters with a maximum known width of about 4 meters (depth unknown). The style of mineralization is not clear. It is not a vein and massive sulphide is not present. The best guess by Electrum was that mineralizing fluids percolated through highly fracture rock producing pervasive iron carbonate alteration with deposition of some sulphides and sulphosalts. The grades found at surface have been strongly affected by supergene processes.
WORK HISTORY
In 1973, surface geological mapping and a geochemical soil and silt survey was completed by Canadian Superior Exploration over approximately 32 line-kilometres covering all Pat 1 to 72 claims.
In 2007, Electrum Resource Corporation held the PAT claim group of 3004 hectares in the vicinity of Mt Patcha, northwest of northern end of Bear Lake (Assessment Report 30038). The claims include four MINFILE showings; Magnum (094D 058), Pat (094D 071), Topo (094D 117), and Copper (094D 120), each contained within claims 555997, 531535, 555063 and 555062 respectively. One day was spent in the Magnum occurrence area where 10 rock and 10 soils samples were collected. One day was spent in the Topo occurrence area where 9 rock and 13 soil samples were collected. One day was spent in the Copper occurrence area where 4 rock samples, 1 soil sample and 3 stream sediment samples were collected. One day was spent in the Pat occurrence area where 19 rock, 2 soil ,1 talus fines and 1 stream sediment samples were collected.
