Capsule Geology

The Ridge occurrence is located approximately 8 kilometres east of Aiken Lake and 94 kilometres northwest of the community of Germansen Landing.

The area is underlain by the Lower Jurassic Polaris Ultramafic Complex composed of dunite, werhlite, pyroxenite, and gabbro, some of which is altered to serpentine.

The Ridge zone consists of interbedded olivine clinopyroxenite and peridotite. Mineralized olivine clinopyroxenite has been traced for approximately 500 metres. The layers appear to be gently southerly dipping. The entire ridge appears to overlay a massive diorite plug. Malachite and disseminated sulphides are present. The sulphides were not described but probably contain pyrite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite, which are reported to be typical of mineralized clinopyroxenite on the property.

Some values obtained from the Ridge zone include 0.3 per cent copper, 0.277 gram per tonne platinum and 0.254 gram per tonne palladium and; 0.67 per cent copper, 0.054 gram per tonne platinum and 0.45 gram per tonne palladium (Assessment Report 27617).

In 2015, four rock samples (37449, 37403, 37405 and 37424) of weakly serpentinized, coarse- to medium-grained olivine pyroxenite with trace very fine-grained disseminated chalcopyrite, taken from an area referred to as the Ridge Shelf zone, located to the east of a small lake and approximately 650 metres northeast of the plotted location of the Ridge zone yielded values from 0.315 to 0.629 gram per tonne platinum and 0.251 to 0.993 gram per tonne palladium (Assessment Report 35680). Also at this time, a single sample (37419) of similar material as the previous samples and taken from a north facing slope approximately 750 metres east of the plotted location of the occurrence assayed 0.173 gram per tonne platinum and 0.117 gram per tonne palladium (Assessment Report 35680).

Work History

In February, 1995, the Star 1-5 claims were staked by U. Mowat to cover a unit of the Polaris Ultramafic Complex. Mowat prospected, sampled and mapped the property from 1995 to 2002 inclusive. In 2003, Minterra Resource Corp. optioned the Star magmatic platinum group element property from Mowat. The company proceeded with an eight-line kilometre induced polarization survey that identified a number of drill targets. In 2004, Minterra drilled eight holes on the property totalling 1044 metres. The Star claims were briefly optioned to Aumega Discoveries in 2005 but the option has been terminated.

In 2014, U. Mowat conducted geochemical sampling (110 soil, 190 rock) on the large Star property which covers the Queen (094C 163), GL (094C 165), Ridge (094C 164), HC (094C 166), HA (094C 167) and HB (094C 168) occurrences. In 2015, U. Mowat completed a further program of geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the Star property.
