The Source occurrence is situated 4 kilometres east-northeast of Mount Bodine, approximately 20 kilometres northeast of Takla Landing. It is the first confirmed discovery of visible gold in quartz in the Vital Range.
The showing occurs near a fault contact between serpentinite, formerly assigned to the Middle Permian to Late Triassic Trembleur intrusions now termed Mississippian to Triassic Oceanic Ultramafites, and phyllite and andesitic flows assigned to the Carboniferous to Jurassic Cache Creek Complex. The ultramafic rocks are dark green to black coloured, massive and widely sheared. Local quartz-carbonate alteration has resulted in tabular zones of rusty weathering quartz-ankerite-mariposite mineralization (Assessment Report 12548). The Cache Creek rocks strike predominantly north, dip to the east and host local felsitic and aplitic intrusions.
At the Source occurrence, very fine-grained visible gold occurs in a narrow (25-centimetre wide), east-striking subcrop containing east-trending quartz veins that has been traced for 100 metres on the surface. The host volcanic rock exhibits strong to intense carbonate alteration. The gold occupies late, discontinuous microfractures and is commonly associated with an equally fine-grained, dull, steel-grey metallic mineral with attendant malachite.
In 1983, Golden Porphyrite Ltd. completed an exploration program on the property containing the occurrence. Geochemical surveys outlined significant gold anomalous zones from rock chip and soil samples. Anomalous silver was observed in two areas of the property.
In 1985, Beauty Geological Ltd. completed geological and geochemical surveys on the property containing the occurrence. Anomalous gold and silver was observed in results.
In 1987, Eric Shaede and Lorne Warren completed a prospecting program on the Gold claim group near the occurrence. Soil and rock sampling yielded maximum values of 38.2 grams per tonne gold in soil sampling lines and a maximum value of 59.1 grams per tonne gold from a sample of the tailings from the panning of a bulk soil sample, located approximately 800 metres north-northeast of the Source occurrence (Assessment Report 17298).
In 1989, Teck Explorations Ltd. completed an exploration program on the property containing the occurrence. One assay result obtained from samples of the quartz was 8.16 grams per tonne gold. Another sample assayed 7.27 grams per tonne gold and 89.8 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 20077, page 4).
In 2015, Jedway Enterprises Ltd. completed a prospecting program on the Den property containing the occurrence. Rocks with nephrite potential in four locations on the property were described and reported on. Follow up prospecting for jade potential was recommended.
