The Fenton area is underlain by felsic rock of the Eocene Ootsa Group, andesitic rock of the Cretaceous Kasalka Group and sedimentary rock of the Lower Cretaceous Skeena Group. Regional scale units also mapped in the vicinity include Lower Jurassic volcanic rock of the Telkwa Formation (Hazelton Group). Intrusions of the Eocene Nanika Plutonic Suite and the Late Cretaceous Bulkley Plutonic Suite intrude the stratigraphy in the Fenton vicinity.
The claims are underlain by the Lower Cretaceous Skeena Group volcanic and sedimentary rocks which consist of basal sandstone and argillites overlain by andesite, tuff-breccia, rhyolite, and basalt with andesite flows. On the west side of Tsalit Mountain, a thick lens-shaped body of tuff breccia is found near the top of a basalt-andesite lava pile. The Mesozoic rocks are intruded by an Eocene Nanika Intrusive Suite body comprised of a mass of quartz monzonite and porphyritic monzonite.
Basalt (Endako Group?) outcrops appear to overlie andesite. Pyritic, rhyolite tuff float was found throughout the showing area. Pyrite and vein chalcopyrite was found in the volcanics in a trench that was excavated in 1976.
In 1982, a significant copper-silver geochemical anomaly 488 metres long, open at both ends, and 122 metre wide was found to coincide with one of the major northwest-southeast fault zones on the property. The anomaly covers the intersection of at least three major fault zones.
A second anomalous area, a silver-lead-zinc anomaly, was found in a portion of an altered agglomerate unit. Sphalerite mineralization occurs in steeply dipping veinlets and as fine disseminations in the agglomerate unit.
Work History
In 2007, Electrum Resource Corp collected 224 soil samples and 38 rock samples of various types. Prospecting was also conducted along roads and soil lines covering an area of approximately 350 hectares. Soil and rock samples were done near and/or over the Code (093L 004), Tsalit Mountain (093L 258) and Fenton occurrence (093L 248). Altered outcrop samples (J+G 001 and 002) were taken in the vicinity of the Code occurrence and assayed 4.4 grams per tonne silver, 0.14 per cent arsenic and 0.09 per cent zinc with anomalous values in gold (Assessment Report 29792).
In 2012, on the Pimpernel and Fenton properties, Copper Mountain Mining carried out a mapping and prospecting program resulting in a re-interpretation of the geology and determined that the rhyolite flow-dome complex together with past exploration results supported the potential for bulk tonnage epithermal silver-gold mineralization. The Pimpernel property covered the Hagas showing at the southeast corner of their claim block and the Fenton block covered the Code, Tsalit Mountain and Fenton occurrence.
In 2013, Copper Mountain drilled 1329 metres in 50 percussion holes with 151 samples being submitted for assay. They also conducted 3.6 kilometres of IP surveying. A total of 31 soil samples were also collected. The 2013 work occurred in close proximity to the Code (093L 004), Tsalit Mountain (093L 258) and Fenton occurrences (093L 248), which were covered at the time by the Fenton property of Copper Mountain Mining.
