The area is underlain by Lower Jurassic Hazelton Group, Telkwa Formation rocks comprised primarily of andesitic to rhyolitic flows with associated tuffs and breccias. Small masses of Late Cretaceous granodiorite and quartz monzonite (probably related to the Bulkley Intrusions) intrude the volcanics.

Chalcopyrite and pyrite are reported to occur with quartz and orthoclase in fractured fine to medium-grained quartz diorite. In 1974, six diamond drill holes, totalling 813.5 metres, were drilled on the Lunlik claims to test for mineralization in the quartz diorite stock. Minerals noted from drilling reports include chalcopyrite, pyrite, bornite, chalcocite, limonite, epidote and garnet. Disseminated pyrite was also reported to occur in rhyolitic fragmented rocks.

In the 1980s, Noranda restaked the Lunlik area as the Tel 1-8 claims. In 1988, a grab sample taken from the limonitic granodioritic intrusive with minor chalcopyrite and pyrite assayed 0.857 grams per tonne gold and 0.0169 per cent copper. Another grab sample assayed 0.0881 per cent copper (Assessment Report 18032).

Work History

The LUNLIK 3 to 36 claims were staked in 1973 in the same area, referred to as Flat Top Mountain. The claims were owned by C. Szydlik and E. Lund, and were optioned to Granges Exploration Ltd. Granges performed 6.6 line kilometres of geophysical surveying, 229 soil geochemical samples on a 30 by 120 metre grid, and six diamond drill holes totalling 813.5 metres, in an area east of the Erin (093L 298) area. The LUNLIK claims subsequently expired in 1976.

In 1988, on their Houston-Tommy property consisting of the Tel, Ter and Nels claims, Noranda Exploration collected a total of 232 soil samples, 31 silt samples, and 28 rock samples which were analysed for 30 elements. Several zinc, lead, gold and molybdenum and molybdenum anomalies were detected. Based on the results, additional prospecting and sampling was recommended (Assessment Report 18032). In 1989, Noranda collected 25 rock and 171 soil samples (Assessment Report 19332). The claims covered an area from the Del (093L 299) east to the Jewelry Box property area (093L 321). This included the Lunlik showing (093L 240).

The 2012 exploration program of International Samuel Exploration Corp on the Jewelry Box property consisted of 548 line kilometers of Heliborne High Resolution Aeromagnetic surveys which covered a number of showings in the area, including the Lunlik.

In late 2018 and early 2019, Shamrock Enterprises Inc. conducted an aeromagnetic survey on the area as the Stellar property. This work identified four priority areas, referred to as the Big Dipper, Cassiopeia, Orion and Lynx zones, for ground-based exploration.

In 2019, Aurwest Resources Corp. conducted an aeromagnetic survey over the Stellar property. In 2021, Aurwest completed prospecting, geochemical sampling, and an Induced Polarization survey on the Stellar property.
