The area of the Windy 5 is underlain by Upper Triassic calc-alkaline volcanics of the Takla Group.
Near the western margin (about 500 metres east of Windy Lake) of a 3 square kilometre chargeability anomaly, several 1989 diamond-drill holes identified a 750 metre wide zone of elevated gold and copper. The holes cut long intervals of pyritized and variably chioritized and silica-altered diorite and andesitic volcanic rocks.
Drilling yielded intercepts including 0.11 per cent copper over 1.4 metres in hole 89-04 and 1.47 per cent copper over 0.3 metre in hole 89-05 (Assessment Report 19853).
About 1100 metres further east, within the same IP chargeability anomaly, outcrops of silicified quartz diorite contain up to 10 per cent disseminated pyrrhotite and lesser pyrite, with minor chalcopyrite as fracture fillings.
