The Home Rule occurrence comprises several mineralized quartz veins located near the east end of the Barkerville Mountain ridge, about 800 metres northwest of the town of Barkerville. The occurrences appears to be located on the Progress No. 8 claim (Lot 10387).

The veins include the Home Rule ledge, and the Dooley ledge, 150 metres to the east, which were described in the late 1800s by Amos Bowman (Geological Survey of Canada Annual Report 1887-88; Geological Survey of Canada Map 364). They were explored in 1933 by Shamrock Gold Mines Limited, when they were covered by the Progress No. 8 and Progress No. 7 (Lot 10388) claims (Geological Survey of Canada Memoir 181). Some veins are within quartzites and phyllites of the Upper Proterozoic-Paleozoic Snowshoe Group, while others are within east-striking bodies of quartz porphyry that cut the Snowshoe Group. The veins are mineralized with galena, pyrite and black sphalerite. An assay of a grab sample containing galena, pyrite and limonite yielded 0.69 gram per tonne gold and 224.98 grams per tonne silver (Geological Survey of Canada Annual Report 1887-88, page 33c).
