Capsule Geology

The Acme occurrence is located between Chisholm Creek in the east and Davis Creek to the west, approximately 13.5 kilometres west of Barkerville.

The occurrence lies within the Barkerville Terrane of the Omineca Belt. The Barkerville Terrane is in thrust contact with Triassic Quesnellia Terrane rocks to the west and Hadrynian to Lower Paleozoic Cariboo Terrane rocks to the east. The Barkerville Terrane in this region is underlain by the dominantly metasedimentary rocks of the Hadrynian to Lower Paleozoic Snowshoe Group. In this area, the Snowshoe Group comprises limestone, phyllite and quartzite. These rocks have been regionally metamorphosed to greenschist facies.

A number of quartz veins up to one metre in width occur in an area underlain primarily by quartzite that grades to a pea-pebble conglomerate. Some of the quartz veining is sparingly mineralized with pyrite, galena and sphalerite. Fine visible gold has also been reported. The veins occupy two sets of fractures which have general trends of north and east. Most of the visible gold appears to be associated with the northerly trending veins.

Mel Zeiler conducted geochemical surveys in 2005 and 2006 which indicated a gold-in-soil anomaly in need of follow up. The actual Acme veins, as indicated by Holland (1948) appear to plot several hundred metres south of Zeiler’s geochemical surveys.

In the 1870s, lode discoveries were made in the Stanley area and although a small amount of gold was recovered from the Perkins vein on Burns Mountain, there has been little lode mining of consequence. The Pine claims (early 2000s) cover the historic Acme workings and the Foster Ledge adits are situated just outside the east boundary. The most comprehensive description of the properties, known to be available, is found in Holland's 1948 report on the Stanley Area in Bulletin 26). According to Holland, the majority of the work on the Acme group, consisting of trenching and an adit, was conducted by Adolph Gustafson of Stanley, shortly prior to and/or ongoing during Holland's examination of the area in 1945 to 1946.

In 1984, American Volcano Mineral Corp. and Alkey Industries Ltd. conducted a heavy mineral geochemical survey on stream gravels from Davis Creek. The area was relatively dormant until 1986 and 1987 when Winex Resources Inc. completed a comprehensive geophysical and geochemical program on their Mount Nelson property (Assessment Reports 15832 and 18011). Winex conducted magnetometer-VLF-EM and soil sampling programs over a portion of what later became the Pine property and on the adjoining Foster Ledge workings (093H 057).

Mel Zeiler began acquiring the claims to his Pine group in 1999 and added additional claims in 2001. In 2005-06, Zeiler completed two soil sampling programs (totaling 270 samples) which have yielded positive results for anomalous gold and appear to be coincident with the 1988 Winex surveys (Assessment Report 18011).

In 2011, Williams Creek Gold Limited extended the 2005 and 2006 soil sampling grid northwards. Follow-up trenching in 2012 based on known soil and geophysical anomalies yielded anomalous gold values.
