The L & H area is underlain by the contact of Lower Jurassic Telkwa Formation calc-alkaline volcanic rock (Hazelton Group, on the east and andesitic rocks of the Cretaceous Kasalka Group on the west. Rocks in the showing area are described as argillic to propylitic to silicic altered rocks consisting of basalt, andesite and plagioclase porphyry. Basalt is hornfelsed and epidotized in the vicinity of a small pluton of granodiorite and quartz diorite.
A quartz vein stockwork in hornfelsed basalt and granodiorite hosts chalcopyrite, pyrite and minor molybdenite mineralization.
WORK HISTORY
In 1972, Canex Placer Limited conducted geological mapping in area surrounding "Johnny-David Lake" that indicated a small pluton of granodiorite and quartz diorite intrudes an assemblage of older Hazelton Group rocks.
In 1994, Cominco Ltd conducted 40.3 kilometres of Induced Polarization IP) geophysical surveying on the Dual property, owned by R. Hamblin (Assessment Report 23504). The purpose of the geophysical survey was to test the porphyry copper-gold potential of a large alteration zone which is coincident with an aeromagnetic and radiometric feature found in Cominco's 1993 airborne survey the consisted of 122 kilometres of flown lines (Assessment Report 23206). The results did not detect the presence of a porphyry system and no response was seen associated with the mineralization uncovered by previous road work. The survey area was north, south, east and west of "Gordeau" Lake. The L & H showing is plotted near the southeast corner of the lake. One IP line was run just east of the Ida showing (093E 071).
In 1997, a total 609.6 metres were drilled in 20 percussion drill holes (Figure 4, Assessment Report 25304). No new massive sulphide veins were discovered during the drilling. These were drilled about 4 kilometres southwest of the L & H showing (Figure 3 and 4, Assessment Report 25304).
In 1998, a total 457 metres were drilled in 15 percussion drill holes. No bedrock was encountered during the course of drilling and no samples were taken. These were drilled just west and southwest of the plotted location in the area of the L & H showing (Figure 4, Assessment Report 25621).
In 1999, Robert Hamblin drilled forty-two percussion holes north of Gordeau Lake on His Dual property (figure 3, Assessment Report 26124). Twelve of the holes failed to penetrate bedrock. One composite sample was collected from the bedrock of each of the holes that intersected bedrock. The assay data indicates that no new copper occurrences were intersected during the drill program.
Lions Gate Metals conducted airborne geophysical surveys and other work in the Gordeau Lake region though the L & H showing was not part of their Poplar property. See Poplar (093L 239) for related details.
In 2018 and 2019, Universal Copper Ltd. completed programs of geochemical sampling (rock, silt and soil) and four diamond drill holes, totalling 1648.97 metres, on the area as the Poplar property.
