The CA occurrence is situated on the Chilcotin Plateau, 18 kilometres north of the settlement of Tatla Lake on Highway 20, approximately 167 kilometres west of Williams Lake, B.C.
The CA showing is located within the Intermontane Belt underlain by volcanic rocks of the Jurassic Hazelton Group and Tertiary volcanics of the Ootsa Lake and Endako Groups, overlain by Miocene plateau basalt. Intruding the Mesozoic volcanic and related sedimentary rocks of the Hazelton Group are small complexes of foliated granodiorite and diorite, often showing complex mixed relationships with intrusive and supracrustal rocks. Younger undeformed quartz porphyry dikes, possibly related to the overlying Ootsa Lake Group cut these older rocks.
The CA showing is underlain by medium-grained diorite which is intensely fractured. These rocks are pervasively chloritized with local intense epidote and silica alteration. Mineralization consists of fracture-controlled chalcopyrite, pyrite and malachite within the diorite and in andesite dikes. Chalcopyrite and malachite are restricted locally to an intensely fractured area near the eastern extremity of the diorite ridge, bearing east from Cowpaddy Lake (Ridge zone).
Initial exploration from 1973 to 1974 was conducted by Picklands Mather & Co., consisting of an aeromagnetic survey, geological mapping, rock and soil geochemical surveys and mercury vapor surveys.
Bailey Geological Consultants examined the area in 1990 incorporating geological mapping, prospecting and rock geochemical sampling. Georgia Resources Inc. conducted a VLF-EM and magnetometer survey in 1992, identifying fault structures striking 045 to 090 degrees. Kennecott Canada Inc.'s exploration efforts in 1995 identified localized areas of weak to strong hydrothermal alteration within and marginal to the Chilanko River diorite.
From 2005 to 2008, Newmac Resources Inc. explored the Chilanko property through IP and magnetometer surveys and unsuccessful trenching. In 2012, Equitas Resources Corp. conducted a program of prospecting and rock and soil geochemical surveys. Prospecting along the Ridge zone, between the east-west trending Goat-Scut-Cowpaddy lakes corridor and the Chilanko River valley indicate that sporadic copper mineralization is associated with andesite diking within the plutonic complex.
