The B.B. occurrence is located south of Blackbear Creek in its eastern headwater area, approximately 12 kilometres east of the village of Likely.
The area lies within the eastern part of the Quesnellia terrane. This region is underlain dominantly by fine-grained metasedimentary rocks, which are in contact with the Barkerville terrane. The metasedimentary rocks comprise mainly dark-grey phyllite and silty slate considered to be of the Middle to Upper Triassic. Part of the black phyllite succession is informally correlated with the Nicola Group but has also been informally referred to as the Quesnel River Group sediments.
Locally, graphitic, black phyllites near the contact with a volcanic breccia host quartz veins with galena mineralization. A sample (No.37) assayed 0.224 per cent lead and 152.8 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 17751).
In 1988, a program of prospecting and rock sampling was completed on the as the B.B. claims. Soil sampling around the Hobson showing (Minfile 093A 074) and the B.B. showing in 2014 returned extensive anomalous zinc values and two gold anomalies (Assessment Report 35717).
In 2017, Barker Minerals Ltd. prospected the B.B. showing area and took subcrop and float rock samples over an area of 1.2 square kilometres. High values of lead, arsenic, zinc and copper occurred in most of the grab rock samples. Seventeen rock samples additionally had high values in silver (1670 to 7404 grams per tonne). One rock sample had 418.53 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 37391). In 2017-2018, outcrop sampling commenced over a quartz-galena vein in siltstone of an approximately 300 length in an area 650 metres west-northwest of the B.B. showing. Sample 224 returned a value of 265.5 grams per tonne gold and sample 233 graded 44.19 grams per tonne gold and 15.04 per cent zinc, although most samples did not return appreciable zinc, lead or copper values (Assessment Report 37701).
From 2011 through 2019, the Black Bear East property was prospected and soil, stream sediment and rock (float, subcrop, outcrop) samples were taken by Barker Minerals Ltd. From east to west, the property included the Hobson occurrence (93A 074), Black Bear East - North (093A 333) and South (093A 334) zones, LA (093A 332), B.B., Big (093A 151) and Providence (093A 003).
