The Kelly Lake gypsum occurence is 13 kilometres southwest of Clinton in a valley in the Pavillion Ranges, west of the Interior Plateau.
Bedrock is chert, argillite and siltstone with minor tuff and limestone (GSC Map 1278A) of the Permian to Triassic Cache Creek Group.
Cache Creek Group limestone and marble underlie most of the area of the gypsum property (Assessment Report 8051). The main showing is a band of gypsum which is weathered and earthy, with a general east-west strike. The zone is 20 to 25 metres wide and has been traced over a strike length of 150 to 200 metres. Two samples collected from the zone (Assessment Report 8051) indicate a calculated content of 93.8 per cent and 103.9 per cent gypsum.
