The Klaskino 5 occurrence is located west of the Klaskish River, approximately 1.8 kilometres north of its mouth.
The area is underlain by calcareous siltstone, shale, limestone, conglomerate and breccia of the Upper Triassic Vancouver Group, Parson Bay Formation and andesitic to basaltic volcanics of the Karmutsen Formation. These sediments have been intruded by granodiorite of the Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite.
Locally, jointed and fractured silicified dark volcanics host sulphide mineralization and are associated with quartz-calcite veins and epidote alteration.
In 2008, geochemical sampling of talus had assay values greater than 10,000 parts per million copper, 834 parts per million zinc, 6130 parts per billion silver and 126 parts per billion gold (Sample RF001; Assessment Report 30215). In 2010, sampling of the showing yielded values up to 20.7 grams per tonne silver, 0.28 grams per tonne gold and greater than 1 per cent copper (Assessment Report 31358). In 2012, a sample (RF318) assayed 44.1 grams per tonne silver and greater than 1 per cent copper (Assessment Report 33532).
Another area of similar mineralization is reported on a logging road, located approximately 220 metres down slope and to the east. In 2012, a sample (RF305) assayed 0.7 per cent copper and 7.1 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 33532)
Work History
In 1982, BP Minerals staked the KI claims and completed programs of geological mapping and geochemical surveys on the area. During 2008 through 2012, V.J. Bruddick completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping and geochemical sampling on the Klaskino 1-6 claims. In 2014, Homegold Resources Ltd. completed an air photo geological interpretation program on the area as the Kluska 2 claim. The following year, North Island Exploration completed a minor program of prospecting and geological mapping on the area as the Klaskino 5-6 claims. In 2019, First Geolas Consulting completed a minor program of prospecting and rock sampling on the area as the Nic property.
