The South Sore (HSW 3) occurrence is located on Zinc Creek, approximately 1.9 kilometres southeast of the western end of Nahwitti Lake.
Regionally, the area is underlain by northwest-trending belts of basaltic volcanics and carbonate sedimentary rocks of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen and Quatsino formations (Vancouver Group) and mafic volcanics and sediments of the Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group (Holberg volcanic unit, Nahwitti River wacke and Parson Bay Formation). These volcanic and sedimentary rocks have been intruded by granodioritic rocks of the Early to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite.
Locally, skarn mineralized with sphalerite, galena and chalcopyrite is found in Quatsino limestone in contact with a north-trending trachytic dike. Small bodies of granodiorite are nearby. Three mineralized zones are exposed in a creek from near the base of the Quatsino Formation to near the Quatsino-Bonanza contact. The lowermost zone is cut off to the north by a west-striking fault. Pyrite and pyrrhotite are present in Bonanza Group andesites and cherty(?) sediments south of the showings. Silicification of the volcanics is evident.
Drilling in 1952 is reported to have intersected 12.3 metres averaging 3.0 per cent zinc and 0.15 per cent lead (Assessment Report 870).
In 1966, a chip sample from the lowest zone assayed 7.12 per cent zinc, 5.17 per cent lead and 13.7 grams per tonne silver over 3.0 metres, whereas a chip sample across 2.4 metres of the upper zone assayed 2.49 per cent zinc, 0.4 per cent lead, 0.01 per cent copper and 3.4 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 870).
In 1991, a rock sample (97327) assayed 1.87 per cent lead, 3.69 per cent zinc and 5.4 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 21270).
The area has been explored since the early 1930s. In 1952, American Smelting and Refining completed a program of geological mapping and 13 drillholes on the Monzonite Creek (MINFILE 092L 244) and Zinc Creek zones. In 1966, Giant Explorations Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and geochemical sampling on the area as the HPH claims. During 1969 through 1973, Giant Explorations Ltd. completed programs of soil sampling and ground and airborne geophysical surveys on the area as the Taxi claims. In 1979, Argilis Exploration Services Ltd. mapped the area as the Big Joe claim.
In 1981, Silver Bar Resources prospected the area. In 1984, the area was prospected and sampled by Daiwan Engineering as the Misty claims. During 1987 through 1991, Hisway Resources Corp. completed programs of geological mapping, ground geophysical surveys, geochemical sampling and six drill holes, totalling 381.5 metres, on the area. In 1992, Cameco Corporation completed a program of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping and ground geophysical surveys on the area. In 1993, Hisway Resources Corp. sampled and mapped the area as the Ruth Mary claim.
In 2006, New Livingstone Minerals prospected the area.
