Capsule Geology

The Rooney showing is located on a un-named north flowing tributary of Rooney Creek, approximately 600 metres east of Rooney Lake.

The area underlain by basalts of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation of the Vancouver Group, near the contact with Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite granodiorite. The contact runs along Adam River, 1.0 kilometre east of the occurrence.

The occurrence consists of disseminated chalcopyrite and bornite, accompanied by minor pyrite and magnetite in an area where the massive to amygdaloidal basalts are fractured and bleached. Chlorite and epidote alteration are present near mineralization.

In 1969, a chip sample assayed 0.14 per cent copper over 6.0 metres; whereas, approximately 250 metres to the northwest, another chip sample yielded 0.23 per cent copper over 6.0 metres (Assessment Report 1859, Figure 2).

In 2004, a sample (C359) assayed 1.24 per cent copper and 6.0 grams per tonne silver, whereas another sample (C401) of massive basalt with malachite and rusty joints, located approximately 250 metres to the northwest, yielded 0.106 per cent copper (Assessment Report 27463).

In 2011, five rock samples (6749, 6985, 6986, 6991 and 16543) of actinolite and pyrite vein material yielded from 1.577 to 6.582 grams per tonne gold, 3.0 to 18.6 grams per tonne silver and 0.085 to 0.701 per cent copper (Assessment Report 32553).

In 2018, a rock sample (R2) assayed 0.322 per cent copper (Assessment Report 38134).

Another area of mineralization, referred to as the Oreo zone, is located several hundred metres southeast of the Rooney 1-4 occurrence and is exposed in a road quarry near the east bank of Rooney Creek. The zone comprises epidote-altered volcanics hosting chalcopyrite associated with two shear zones. In 2002, a sample from the zone assayed 1.26 per cent copper and 6.0 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 27070).

Work History

In 1969, Newconex completed a program of rock, silt and soil sampling on the area as the Rooney claims. The same year, Ameda Copper Mines completed a program of soil sampling, geological mapping and a ground geophysical survey over the area immediately to the north as the CV and Plus claims. In 1972. Sayward Explorations completed a program of rocks and soil sampling, geological mapping and a ground magnetic survey. In 1988, Germa Minerals completed a program of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping and a ground electromagnetic survey. During 2002 through 2013, M. Schau completed programs of prospecting, geological mapping and rocks sampling on the area as the Oreo 1 and Krisp 1-6 claims of the Kringle Consolidated Property. In 2018, Crest Resources Inc. completed a program of prospecting, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling, trenching and a 24.0 line-kilometre ground electromagnetic survey on the area as the Red Metal Ridge property.
