Capsule Geology

The Larson 2 occurrence is reported to be located on the north side of Noomas Creek, approximately 4.3 kilometres east-northeast of the creek mouth on Nimpkish Lake.

The area is underlain by volcanics and sediments of the Upper Triassic Vancouver Group (Karmutsen, Quatsino, Parson Bay formations) and by volcanics of the Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group. These rocks have been intruded by the Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite, which are co-genetic with the Bonanza Group.

Showings on the old Larson 2 group, reported to contain bornite and galena, are located along the contact between Upper Jurassic granodiorite on the east and Quatsino limestone on the west. Massive magnetite with minor pyrite and chalcopyrite is located in the immediate vicinity. Mineralization is probably skarn related.

In 1989, sampling of massive magnetite yielded up to 0.189 per cent copper and 51.7 per cent iron (Assessment Report 20092).

Work History

In 1989, W.J. Laird completed a program of rock sampling and geological mapping on the area as the Nimpkish claims. In 1999, Double Star Resources prospected the area immediately south as the New 1-2 claims. In 2019, Ridgeline Exploration Services completed a 454.3 line-kilometre airborne magnetic survey on the area as the Nimpkish (Wolf) property.
