The Rupert (DEM) occurrence is located 120 metres from the shoreline, between Keekuyzed Creek and Kenny Point on the southwestern side of Rupert Inlet.
The area is underlain by amygdaloidal basalts and andesites of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation in contact to the west with Quatsino Formation limestone.
Locally, chalcocite and bornite occur in quartz-calcite stringers within andesite.
In 1908, 6 tonnes grading 8 per cent copper were shipped (Geological Survey of Canada Summary Report 1929A, page 142).
In 1968, a 1.5 metre chip sample near an adit portal assayed 0.8 per cent copper while a grab sample assayed 5.5 per cent copper (Assessment Report 1717).
Work History
In the early 1900‘s, an adit was driven for 66 metres. A shaft is located 15 metres from the adit mouth. In 1968 and 1969, Pathfinder Uranium completed programs of geological mapping, soil sampling and a ground magnetometer survey on the area as the DEM and Hard claims. During 2002 through 2019, Graymont Western Canada Inc. completed programs of geological mapping, rock sampling and ground magnetic surveys on the area immediately south of the occurrence as part of the MQ, Nimpkish, Varney Bay and Bonanza properties. These programs were centered on the limestone (MINFILE 092L 344) occurrences in the area.
