The Wedge occurrence is located north of Cayoosh Creek, approximately 2.5 kilometres northwest of its junction with Phair Creek.
Regionally, the area is underlain by sedimentary rocks of the Lower Cretaceous Brew Group and Jurassic to Cretaceous Cayoosh Assemblage, and marine sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Mississippian to Jurassic Bridge River Complex. A shear zone, thought to be related to a regional thrust fault, separates argillite and sandstone of the Lower Cretaceous Brew Group and Jurassic to Cretaceous Cayoosh Assemblage from overlying Mississippian to Jurassic Bridge River Complex metasediments and schists.
Locally, a phyllite, hosted in the footwall of a thrust fault below overlying greenstones, contains quartz stockwork zones mineralized with arsenopyrite and pyrite.
In 1997, sampling of shallow hand trenches yielded up to 3.95 grams per tonne gold (Property File - Canadian Resources House Ltd. [2004-06-10]: Technical Report - Ample-Goldmax Property).
The area has been explored since the late 1890s in conjunction with the nearby Ample (MINFILE 092JNE069) occurrence. In 1997, Homestake Canada Inc. examined and sampled the area.
