The Wiz 3 showing is located approximately 800 metres south-southwest of the south end of Dot Lake.
The area is situated in the southeastern part of the Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic Guichon Creek Batholith underlain primarily by coarse-grained granodiorite designated as the Chataway variety of the Highland Valley phase of the intrusion (EMPR PRELIM Map 30). The Guichon Creek Batholith is transected by north- and west-trending regional faults.
Locally, a trench and drillhole intersected disseminated bornite hosted by quartz diorite porphyry and adjacent quartz diorite.
Other zones of minor copper mineralization, comprising malachite and lesser bornite are reported southeast of Twilight Lake on the former Wiz 18-19 claims and north of Gypsum Lake on the former Wiz 34-35 claims.
Work History
During the 1960s, Chataway Exploration completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical sampling and ground geophysical surveys on the area.
In 1965, Bralorne Resources competed a program of geological mapping, a 95.0 line-kilometre induced polarization survey and a 107.2 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area as the Dot, Rose, She and Wiz claims. The following year, a program of soil sampling was completed.
In 1968, King Resources Co. completed a program of geological mapping on the area as the Ant, In, Jay, Len, Rex, Rob, Sho, T.D.M. and Wiz-Dot claims of the Chataway property.
During the 1970s, numerous operators including Asarco, Canadian Superior Exploration, International Mogul Mines Ltd. and Aselo Minerals completed programs of ground geophysical surveys on the area.
In 1972, International Mogul Mines Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping, a 53.0 line-kilometre induced polarization survey and four diamond drill holes, totalling 355.7 metres, on the area as Bob, Moon, Sho and Val claims of the Chataway property.
In 1981, Cominco Ltd. completed an induced polarization survey and a ground magnetic survey on the area immediately west of the occurrence as the Apollo and Nova claims.
