The Kel showing is situated on the southeast side of Paul Creek, 13.5 kilometres due south of the town of Hedley.
The showing is hosted in grey to green, hornfels-altered argillite (?) of the Whistle Formation.
Altered fine-grained sediments of the Ordovician to Triassic Apex Mountain Complex are separated to the west from Upper Triassic Nicola Group volcanics and sediments by a north-trending body of granodiorite of the Middle Jurassic Cahill Creek pluton. The Apex Mountain sediments contain lenses of arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite and pyrite at the junction of fractures near the east flank of the granodiorite mass. Arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite, pyrite and minor chalcopyrite are also widely disseminated throughout these sediments. Chip sampling of various old trenches on the John 8 and Kel 3 claims encountered gold assays of up to 0.96 gram per tonne (Assessment Report 12475, plan of assays and outcrops).
Just west of these old workings, in the vicinity of Paul Creek, a small body of similarly altered and mineralized sediments lies within the granodiorite intrusive. Two grab samples assayed 13.2 and 12.1 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 12475, page 1). Two of the rock samples collected by Velocity Minerals Inc. in 2010 assayed 10.7 and 13.5 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 32277, page 3). Rock sampling by Grant Crooker yielded anomalous gold, arsenic and copper values, including one sample that assayed 10.7 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 31641, page 2).
In 2010, two different groups explored the Kel showing. Grant Crooker carried out a program of geological and geochemical exploration, including prospecting, mapping and stream sediment and rock sampling, on his Hedley Gold Project claim group, in which the Kel showing is located in the very southeast corner. That same year, Velocity Minerals Inc. carried out a prospecting and geological mapping program on the Ashnola claim group to the south, which had been optioned from Ron Schneider and also covered a portion of the Kel showing, including locating and sampling near the Kel, Prince (MINFILE 092HSE056), Soft (MINFILE 092HSE187), Woodgrain (MINFILE 092HSE188), TO (MINFILE 092HSE248) and Nova (MINFILE 092HSE249) showings covered by the claim group. Five samples were collected in the vicinity of the Kel showing.
In 2011, Crooker expanded the Hedley Gold Project claim group by amalgamating his claims with those owned by Ron Schneider. The expanded property was then optioned to Westcan Uranium Corporation. Three 1:10,000 scale base maps of the property were produced. Rock geochemical sampling was also expanded in the central and northern portions of the property.
