Capsule Geology

The Highland South Copper (Central Anomaly) occurrence is located on a ridge separating the north eastern to arms of Uztlius Creek.

The area is underlain by Cretaceous aged pelitic sediments assigned to the Pasayten Group, which may be a non-marine facies equivalent of the upper part of the Jackass Mountain Group. The former group comprises sandstone, conglomerate, argillite and minor tuff occurring in a north-northwest trending belt extending across the entire 92H map area. These rocks are bound to the west by the Chuwanten fault and sediments belonging to the Jurassic Dewdney Creek Formation of the Ladner Group and to the east by the Pasayten fault and plutonic rocks of the Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous Eagle Plutonic Complex. Local Early Tertiary stocks of intermediate composition intrude the sediments.

Locally, quartz porphyritic rhyolite and biotite granodiorite are cut by feldspar porphyry dikes and a small breccia pipe. The rhyolite and feldspar porphyry dikes host disseminated pyrite mineralization. An extensive, at least 1.0 by 1.5 kilometres, copper-molybdenum soil anomaly has been identified with soil samples yielding up 3150 parts per million copper and 115 parts per million molybdenum (Assessment Report 27391).

In 1969, the area was staked as the Mod-Bar group of claims. An unknown amount of trenching and diamond drilling was reported to have been completed at this time. In 1975, Quintana Minerals completed a program of geological mapping and rock sampling on the area as the Duc 1-24 claims. During 1979 through 1982, JMT Services, on behalf of Utah Mines, completed programs of rock and soil sampling on the area as the Modbar and MB claims. In 1984, Nicola Prospecting and Mining Syndicate completed a program of geological mapping and geochemical sampling. In 2003, A. Walus completed a soil sampling program on the area as the Pilsudski 1-6 claims. In 2005, Southern Rio Resources completed a program of geological mapping, rock and soil sampling and a ground induced polarization survey on the area as the East BB claims. In 2012, Natan Resources completed a program of rock, silt and soil sampling on the area as the Highland South Copper property. In 2013, Homegold Resources completed a photo-geological interpretation program on the area as the Uztlius 1 claim.
