The Mob occurrence is located approximately 1.9 kilometres north-northwest of the west end of Long Lake and 3.6 kilometres northeast of the north end of Brenda Lake.
The area is underlain by fine-grained quartz diorite of the Lower Jurassic Brenda stock, which is part of the Pennask Batholith. The quartz diorite is sheared, carbonate- altered and cut by pyritic quartz stringers.
Locally, glassy, drusy quartz veinlets, 0.5 to 3.0 centimetres wide, with inter-grown chlorite host scattered grains of pyrite and chalcopyrite.
In 1991, a sample of chips from outcrop and talus yielded 0.045 gram per tonne gold and 4.6 grams per tonne silver (Sample PEN91-R14; Assessment Report 22304, page 17, Table 2). A previous (1966), percussion drill hole, located approximately 250 metres south of sample PEN91-R14, yielded 0.16 per cent copper over 6.1 metres (hole PH 11, 42.7-48.8 metres; Property File - Noranda Exploration Company Ltd., 1966).
In 2008, a sample of quartz vein material assayed 0.21 gram per tonne gold, 55.1 grams per tonne silver and greater than 1.0 per cent copper (Assessment Report 32070).
In 2009, a select grab sample (Tr09-05-R004) from a trench, located approximately 150 metres to the north, assayed 2.18 grams per tonne gold and 101.0 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 32070).
Work History
The occurrence was part of the extensive property holdings of Noranda Exploration Company Ltd. in the 1960s. Numerous trenches, roads and drill holes were left in this general area by Noranda; however, the results of their work were not filed for assessment.
In 1970, Arrow Inter-America completed an airborne magnetic survey, totalling 752 line-kilometres, on the area as the Tic and Toc claims. The showing was first explored by Noranda Exploration Company Ltd., with the drilling of one percussion hole in 1971.
The occurrence was then geologically mapped and soil sampled by Brenda Mines Ltd. in 1981. In 1987, Brenda Mines Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping, soil sampling, ground magnetic and induced polarization surveys and drilling on the area as the North Brenda (NB claims) property.
The area was re-staked as the Pen claims by Fairfield Minerals Ltd. in 1990, and subsequently programs of prospecting and geochemical (soil, silt and rock) sampling were completed during 1991 through 1996.
During 2006 through 2012, Bitterroot Resources completed programs of rock, silt and soil sampling, geological mapping, trenching, 147.6 line-kilometres of ground magnetic surveys and a 66.2 line-kilometre ground induced polarization survey on the area as the North Brenda property.
