Capsule Geology

The South MDA occurrence outcrops approximately 1 kilometre west of Summers Creek and 4.9 kilometres north-northeast of the summit of Missezula Mountain.

The area is underlain by andesitic flows and pyroclastics of the Upper Triassic Nicola Group (Central Belt, Bulletin 69). These volcanics are cut by several small dike-like bodies of fine-grained diorite in the vicinity of mineralization.

The occurrence is comprised of scattered copper occurrences lying in a 900 by 250 metre area. Mineralization consists of disseminated and fracture-controlled chalcopyrite in intrusives and volcanics, often accompanied by magnetite and epidote. Chalcocite and malachite are also reported. This mineralization tends to be associated with the diorite.

In 1985, a rock sample (2194) from the occurrence area yielded 0.486 per cent copper, 2.0 grams per tonne silver and 0.110 gram per tonne gold, whereas two other samples (2222 and 2590), taken approximately 300 metres southwest and 800 metres west-northwest of the previous sample, yielded 0.226 and 0.322 per cent copper with 2.9 and 2.0 grams per tonne silver, respectively (Assessment Report 14044).

In 2009, a chip sample (S-04) from a roadcut exposing malachite-staining in the area of the occurrence yielded 0.104 per cent copper (Assessment Report 31138). The following year, a grab sample (55111) from a roadcut exposing a (diorite?) intrusive with pyrite yielded 0.105 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 31916).

Work History

In 1971, Amax Potash Corp. completed a program of geological mapping, soil sampling and ground magnetic and induced polarization surveys on the area as the Rum claims. In 1972, Sheba Copper Mines Ltd. completed geological mapping, soil sampling and magnetic surveys in the area as the MDA claims. In 1976, Ruskin Developments Ltd. completed a soil sampling program on the Rum claims.

During 1979 through 1981, Cominco Ltd. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and a 17.0 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the Rum claims. During 1985 through 1987, Laramide Resources Ltd. completed programs of geological mapping and geochemical (soil and rock) sampling on the area as the Sadim 1-6 claims. Also, during 1985 through 1987, Peter Peto completed minor programs of geochemical (rock and soil) sampling and a ground electromagnetic survey on the area immediately north of the occurrence as the Coke 1-8 claims of the Rum property.

In 1994, Harlow Ventures Inc. and Vanco Explorations Ltd. completed a program of rock sampling, trenching and a 50.0 line-kilometre ground magnetic and electromagnetic survey on the Rum 1-8 and Sadim 2-4 claims.

In 2000, Max Investments Ltd. and Toby Ventures Inc. completed a program of trenching, sampling and a 27.0 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the Rum and Sadim claims. In 2009, Orofino Minerals Inc. completed a 922.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic and gamma-ray spectrometer survey and minor sampling on the area as part of the Allison Lake property. The following year, Orofino Minerals Inc. completed a program of prospecting, geological mapping, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling and 57.0 line-kilometres of ground magnetic and induced polarization surveys on the Allison Lake property.

During 2014 through 2018, Colorado Resources Ltd. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling, a historical induced polarization processing and inversion and a 6.0 line-kilometre induced polarization survey on the area as the Hit-Aspen Grove property.
